Welcome to the Festive Edition of our newsletter, where we look back over 2025 and everything Lydon Contracting Ltd has achieved. We're proud of the work we do and we wanted to share it with our colleagues and partners.
Christmas message from Brian Lydon
As we come to the end of 2025, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a busy and successful year for Lydon Contracting Ltd.
This year has seen continued progress across our projects, the strengthening of key client relationships, and further investment in our people, plant, and processes. Achieving important milestones — including the successful delivery of complex works and the attainment of new accreditations — is a real credit to the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork shown across the business.
I would like to thank all our employees, clients, partners, and supply-chain colleagues for their ongoing support and commitment throughout the year. Your hard work and collaboration play a vital role in maintaining the high standards we set for ourselves and in helping the business continue to grow sustainably.
As we look ahead to 2026, we remain focused on working safely, delivering quality, and building on the strong foundations we have established. I am confident that, together, we are well-placed for another positive year.
The start of the year
Lydon Contracting Ltd marked its 25th anniversary with a strong focus on infrastructure projects across the UK, including substation builds in Sheffield and Stansted, EV charging and Bus Wash installations in Oxford and Birmingham, and a successful directional drill under the M11 for National Highways. The company continues to lead in civil engineering innovation while maintaining high standards, earning its seventh Constructionline Gold Accreditation and renewing its Social Value Certificate. Sustainability efforts were also highlighted with the addition of a new electric vehicle to the fleet, reinforcing Lydon’s commitment to environmental responsibility and community impact.
We kicked off February with major progress at Crimscote Solar Farm, completing key substation structures, and began new works at Cardiff Docks to supply a logistics depot via 11kV circuits. Projects also launched at Harwell Campus for secure walling upgrades and continued at Metroline Cricklewood depot in London, where EV charger bases are being installed for a new electric bus fleet. The company renewed its NERS accreditation, covering civil works up to 66kV, and expanded its fleet with new vehicles and a high-visibility dumper. February also introduced Commercial Manager Andrew Jenks, a triathlon enthusiast with a passion for engineering and adventure.
March saw the business advancing key infrastructure projects, including BT chamber installations for HS2 works, 33kV ducting for a Warwickshire solar farm, and a permanent access road for a Bicester substation. EV charger installations were completed in Leicester for Greene King, and major renewable energy works began in Norwich to connect a BESS and solar farm to the National Grid. The company also welcomed new Ford Ranger vehicles, continued its commitment to staff training across multiple safety and technical areas, and progressed the eco-friendly expansion of its Head Office, featuring solar panels, battery storage, and EV charging points.
Springing into action
April saw us advancing multiple infrastructure projects, including asphalt and drainage works for the Graven Hill substation access road in Bicester, and remedial paving at Milton Keynes’ Queens Court ahead of its reopening. A permeable access road was also underway for another Bicester substation, with geogrid stabilisation used to address poor ground conditions. At Stansted, ducting was installed across Pesterford Bridge using vacuum excavation and custom steel protection. Staff training continued with NVQ qualifications in formwork and steel fixing, while the eco-friendly Head Office build progressed toward roof installation and solar panel fitting. The company also added two Polestar EVs to its fleet, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
In May we completed BT chamber works for HS2 and began EV infrastructure upgrades at Potters Bar bus depot, including ducting, lighting, and pedestrian access improvements. A UKPN substation plinth was constructed for a school in Peckham, and 33kV cable installation was completed for the Tolldish Hall solar farm near Coventry, which will generate power for over 7,000 homes. The team also commissioned a new 11kV supply for National Express Perry Barr and delivered final landscaping. A new fuel-efficient DAF LF290 hotbox lorry was added to the fleet, and long-standing operative Ty launched a heartfelt 60-mile charity run in support of the National Autistic Society, inspired by his son.
June marked the completion of the Graven Hill substation build in Bicester, ready for client handover, alongside progress on its access road and drainage systems. EV infrastructure was delivered at Cricklewood Bus Depot, supporting the rollout of 60 electric buses, while works continued at Potters Bar depot and Sheffield University’s HV network. In Norwich, ducting and cable joint bays were prepared for a major solar and BESS link, with coordination underway for railway crossings. The newsletter also celebrated Ty Murrell’s successful 100-mile charity run for the National Autistic Society, raising £1,292 and surpassing his original goal.
Those Summer days
July saw another EV scheme commence at Arriva Thurmaston in Leicester. A new 33kV cable route began for the Dallington Grange development in Northampton, alongside ongoing solar and BESS connections in Norwich, where the team overcame complex engineering challenges. The company also underwent a successful NERS audit at Valley Park, showcasing its new app-based compliance system. Office expansion continued with integrated solar panels and heat pump installation, while staff enjoyed a team-building gliding day at Oxford Gliding Club, capped off with a BBQ.
August saw several schemes advancing, including 33kV cable works in Northampton, solar farm base construction in Warwickshire, and EV hub installations in Worksop and Leicester. Complex works at Potters Bar bus depot involved trenching, charger plinths, and safe removal of decommissioned fuel tanks. In Oxford, a 1.3km HV installation began, adhering to HAUC highway reinstatement standards. The team also completed tarmac resurfacing at Centre:MK in Milton Keynes and reinforced its commitment to mental health awareness in construction, promoting open dialogue and support across the workforce.
September was a busy month across the region with key infrastructure projects, including fuel tank removal and EV charger base construction at Potters Bar, topcutting and vacuum excavation for 33kV cable routes in Northampton, and preparations for directional drilling under the M4 in Wiltshire. New cable installations were completed in Coventry, alongside footpath upgrades in Wellingborough and final touches at a London bus depot. The company renewed its Constructionline Gold, Builders Profile, and Social Value certifications, whilst hosting its first LCL Golf Day in the Cotswolds.
The Winter Wonders
October marked the completion of the Tolldish Hall Farm solar project near Coventry, now capable of powering over 7,000 homes. Major progress was made at the Norwich renewable energy site, with ducting and HV cable installations. EV infrastructure works began in Wolverhampton, while horizontal directional drilling commenced under the M4 near Chippenham. The company celebrated a flawless ISO 9001 audit, welcomed a new Takeuchi excavator, and proudly cheered on Managing Director Brian Lydon, who completed the New York Marathon in under four hours.
November was a busy month with several major projects reaching key milestones. At Dallington Grange, the substation build is taking shape as steel frames rise, while in Leicestershire, teams are advancing a renewable energy cable route to the grid. Work continues on an EV charging hub near the M5 and a new 11kV supply for North London’s electric bus fleet, overcoming complex urban challenges. Alongside these achievements, we’re proud to have secured ISO 45001 accreditation, reinforcing our commitment to health and safety, and invested in cutting-edge equipment to boost efficiency. Beyond engineering, we remain dedicated to our community-supporting local sports and raising over £7,000 for men’s health through our Movember event.
