Cylchlythyr Ysgol Saltney Ferry "Cydweithio, gallwn gyd llwyddo."

Welcome everyone to this weeks newsletter.

Great to see our pupils developing so many learning experiences in the outdoors this week. We are proud of what our school offer to your children.

We've had a visit from Sophie and Harry 'Flintshire Countryside and Coast' who have been amazing support in developing our new pond. We are extremely grateful for this and all of the new experiences it will create.

Autumn is setting in, please ensure your child has appropriate clothes for their Udeskole / outdoor school days.

As always, thank you for your support and kind words this week. Have a great weekend!

Mr Martin

This week in Nursery and Reception, we have been busy exploring maths and numeracy in lots of fun ways! The children have loved sorting and matching – from bears and leaves by size and colour, to grouping objects into small numbers. During circle time, we even sorted ourselves by hair colour, height, jumpers and jackets, and whether our hair was up or down!

On the iPads, the children enjoyed a memory game of matching pairs, carefully flipping the cards to find a partner. We also got creative, making animals using different shapes and copying pictures to practise our observation skills.

In PE, we experimented with different ways of rolling – with some children even mastering a roly-poly! Out in Udeskole, we made our own chalk paint, created a beautiful autumn wreath for our class door, and played some favourite outdoor games, including What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?

To finish the week, the children used the iPads to record themselves talking about their families and where they live – a lovely way to share their stories and voices🤩

This week, we have started looking at Harvest and we have been preparing our cardboard apples ready for sewing onto them next week. We have been learning about nouns so that we can write invites for our parent suprise on Thursday 23rd October. The children are thoroughly enjoying Uderskole each Friday.

Dosbarth Tegid have had a busy and exciting time in class this week. We worked together to write clear step-by-step instructions on how to make an apple crumble, thinking carefully about the order of each stage to help us when we make it in a few weeks! We have also been learning Makaton through songs, helping us to use signs and actions to support our communication in a fun and engaging way. Outdoors, we explored our senses by tasting different crisps and sharing our ideas about the flavours with our friends, building our language and social skills while having lots of fun. Amazing work everyone!

Brenig had a fab start on Udeskole day as we fed the animals, foraged in the garden for our food produce and developed resilience and perseverance in the forest!

We are thoroughly enjoying developing our knowledge on British birds and beginning to discuss how we can implement solutions in our local area. More details from our environmental activists coming over the next few weeks!

We have been researching a bird of each pupils choosing that we might see in our garden. Pupils have been fascinated by the data we can use from the RSPB website.
Numeracy skills, the Brenig Starbooks opening up and plenty of opportunities to exercise! What a week.

Dosbarth Gwynant have worked super hard this week continuing their persuasive speeches about climate change. We have included lots of links to data and statistics that we have explored in previous weeks and have been using lots of persuasive language.

We have enjoyed beginning to draft project ideas on how we can encourage our school community to be sustainable. We had so many great ideas that we can't wait to share with our friends in the other classes!

We started our Harvest art and practising our song for the harvest assembly next week. We can't wait to show everyone our beautiful pieces of art, they look amazing!

Then we joined Padarn for Udeskole on Friday, helping them with their crafts and playing alongside them. What wonderful role models ☺️

"First School Farm in North Wales" to all our new parents, do come and speak to us about the farm or chat with our families.

Another few visitors this week! Colleagues visited to look at how we are using Welsh across the school. They were excited to see how well the farm has developed. We've also received a visit from Harry and Sophie - the masterminds in sourcing funding and supporting the development of our new pond!! Diolch o galon i chi. Thank so much from all of the children. This will offer a wealth of learning experiences and opportunities.

While the pond isn't another 'extension' to the farm, it will add to our cycle of biodiversity supporting the children to better understand how to work with nature. We are already implementing sustainable and biodiverse practices, soon the chickens will be relocated and will scratch around in the hay to eat insects. The hens bedding is used in the compost heap along with the goat bedding. Our hay is sourced locally and organically grown too!
