2024 WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The 2024 Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championship will be hosted at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on April 27-28.

Day one of the championships will feature 36 holes of competition using a traditional-style start.

Admission to the Landmark Women's Golf Championship is free. Spectators must remain at least 15 yards from participants and stay on cart paths and in roughs. No communication shall be permitted between spectators and participants while a round is underway. Golf carts will not be available for spectators.

About Shawnee Golf

Located on the grounds of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, the Shawnee Island Course is the crown jewel of the property. It was completed in 1910, a year before the Inn was built, and is A.W. Tillinghast’s first-ever design.

The course has tee-to-green irrigation, ensuring the best Pocono golf conditions possible.

2023 Recap

The Catholic University women's golf team won the program's second Landmark Conference title after shooting a two-day total of 661 (335-326). The Cardinals finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place Drew University, who played a two-day total of 675 (344-331).

Individually, Madalyne Buhler of the University of Scranton, held onto her lead to claim medalist honors. She ended the two-day championship with a score of 153 (71-82) to beat out Drew's Kayla Diaz by two strokes.

Fall Preview Recap

Catholic University women's golf program finished its fall campaign in style by winning the Landmark Conference Women's Golf Preview, held at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.

The Cardinals shot a two-day total of 648 (327-321) to win the preview by an impressive 82 strokes over second place The University of Scranton.

Individually, freshman Gabrielle Courtney of Catholic earned her first medalist honors. She shot a two-day total of 159 (81-78). The Cardinals occupied the top five spots on the leaderboard. Junior Lauren Lombardo finished in second with a score of 162 (83-79), while junior Avery Mrak shot a 163 (83-80) to place third.

Catholic University

The Catholic University women's golf team is eagerly anticipating their return to the fairways of the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort next weekend. Their previous performance at the conference preview in October was nothing short of spectacular, with the Cardinals showcasing dominance by clinching victory with an impressive 82-stroke lead over The University of Scranton.

Remarkably, all five of the Cardinals' players secured positions within the top five spots on the leaderboard during the tournament, with first-year standout Gabrielle Courtney leading the charge with a remarkable two-day total of 159 strokes, highlighted by her impressive 78 on the second day.

This season has seen the Cardinals consistently excel, with top-five finishes in every tournament they've competed in so far. Amongst their achievements, they've clinched victory in three out of the eight tournaments they've participated in.

Drew University

Drew University is poised to reclaim its dominance on the golf course, eyeing their fourth title in seven years as they gear up for championship weekend. After narrowly missing out on the 2023 team title by a mere 14 strokes, falling short to Catholic University, the Rangers are more determined than ever to clinch victory.

Leading the charge once again is Kayla Diaz, a beacon of excellence who secured both the Player and Rookie of the Year titles in 2022. Diaz thrives in the intensity of championship competition, as evidenced by her remarkable performances in the last two championships. In 2022, she set a new conference record of 145, surpassing her 36-hole record by an impressive three strokes. Her second-round brilliance included a breathtaking two-under-par 70, highlighted by an astonishing 32 on the back nine, earning her well-deserved medalist honors.

Despite narrowly missing the top spot in 2023, Diaz's runner-up finish with a score of 155 (77-78) showcased her skill, trailed by just three strokes behind the medalist. With birdies and pars aplenty, she secured First-Team All-Landmark Conference honors for the second consecutive year.

Accompanying Diaz is the talented Roxy Riles, who made waves last year by earning a spot on the All-Conference first team as a freshman. With over 13 rounds of competition under her belt this season, Riles boasts an impressive six top-10 finishes and a scoring average of 81.62.

Elizabethtown College

April 9 marked a historic moment for the Elizabethtown College Women's Golf team as they clinched their program's first-ever individual title. Megan Yoder led the charge, securing top honors with a standout performance, carding an impressive 96 to propel Etown to a decisive 412-433 victory over league rival Susquehanna University.

As the Blue Jays prepare for championship weekend, they welcome back the seasoned Grace Flocco to their lineup. Despite narrowly missing out on Second Team All-Conference recognition at the 2023 championships, where she finished 14th with a two-day total of 192, Flocco remains an asset to the team. Additionally, Jillian Schwarz, who secured a 24th-place finish last year, returns to bolster the Blue Jays' roster, adding depth and experience to their lineup.

Goucher College

With second-year head coach Matt Shur at the helm, the Gopher team is poised to elevate its performance from last year's third-place finish at the 2023 championships, boasting a full lineup of returning scorers.

Among the returning talents are two Second Team All-Conference standouts, Iseline Schenk and Keeli Satterfield, who showcased their skills with impressive 10th and 12th place finishes respectively in the previous season.

Joining them are Grace Klain, Maddie Agrusti, and Molly Smith, all valuable assets returning to fortify the Gophers' roster. With a combination of experience and talent, they aim to make a strong push for the championship title under Coach Shur's guidance.

Juniata College

The Juniata College women's golf roster returns just two players from last year's championship team: Sofia Amoroso and Sandy Milby.

Amoroso has been a consistent performer for the Eagles throughout her collegiate career. Making her mark early on, she distinguished herself as a freshman by clinching victory at a Landmark event, becoming the first Juniata women's player to achieve such a feat. Her sophomore year saw her garnering All-Conference Second Team honors, propelled by a commendable 10th-place finish at the Landmark Championships with a score of 91.

Continuing her impressive trajectory, as a senior, Amoroso delivered a combined score of 166 to secure an eighth-place finish. Her reliability was further demonstrated at the 2023 October fall preview, where she secured ninth place with a score of 179, showcasing her consistency and competitive edge on the course.

Milby placed 30th (238) at the preview while a pair of freshmen Alyssa Mostick (t-24th) and Lily Stewart (16th) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.

Marywood University

In a roster devoid of upperclassmen, the Pacers will rely heavily on the talents of sophomores Jenna Collins, Maddie Franceski, and Gracie Secor to carry the team forward.

Of this trio, Maddie Franceski stands out as the sole Marywood representative with championship experience. Last year, she participated as an individual contender, securing a respectable 22nd-place finish with a two-day total of 213 strokes (104-109).

As the Pacers gear up for the upcoming challenge, Franceski's experience and skill will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their quest for victory.

Moravian University

With a roster brimming with youthful talent, the Greyhounds boast the distinction of being the youngest team in the conference, led by three promising freshmen: Ella Oswald, Heidi Wegscheider, and Alivia Zagra.

During the fall preview, Wegscheider emerged as the standout performer among the trio, delivering a solid performance with a total score of 187 (95-92), securing a respectable 14th-place finish. Oswald showcased her skill as well, claiming the 19th spot with a score of 201 (105-96), while Zagra rounded out the trio with a commendable 22nd-place finish, carding a score of 207 (111-96).

As they prepare to make their mark in the conference championship, the Greyhounds' youthful enthusiasm, coupled with Coach Mutcher's guidance, promises an exciting debut for Moravian University on the competitive golfing stage.

University of Scranton

As championship weekend approaches, the Royals women's golf team finds themselves relying heavily on the seasoned expertise of senior Madalyne Buhler, their sole returning All-Conference performer.

Buhler, who earned the accolade of First Team selection and Player of the Year in 2023, stands as a beacon of leadership for the squad. Having competed in 12 events and boasting an impressive scoring average of 85.50, her experience and skill are invaluable assets to the team. During the fall preview, Buhler secured an eighth-place finish with a score of 178 (93-85), further solidifying her role as a key contributor.

Adding to the team's promise are three talented underclassmen who showcased their potential at the preview. Freshman Alexandra Schaul impressed with an 11th-place finish, carding a score of 181 (93-88), while sophomores Cassandra Weir (93-92--185) and Lidia Marranca (92-94--186) delivered commendable performances, placing 12th and 13th respectively.

Susquehanna University

Bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the River Hawks lineup is senior Erin Hahn, a stalwart presence who has graced every Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championship throughout her collegiate career at Susquehanna.

Hahn's journey through the championships has been one of steady improvement. From her debut as a first-year, where she secured a 21st place finish, to her sophomore year's advancement to 20th place, Hahn's progression has been evident. The pinnacle of her collegiate career thus far came at the 2023 championships, where she narrowly missed out on All-Conference honors with an impressive 13th-place finish.

During the fall preview, Hahn once again led the River Hawks with an 18th-place showing. Alongside her, first-year talent Molly Rohan made her mark with a commendable 20th-place finish. Senior Ava Greene and first-year Kellyn Hackeet-Slimm contributed to the team's efforts, rounding out the scoring with 33rd and 35th-place finishes respectively.

As the River Hawks prepare for the upcoming championship, Hahn's leadership, coupled with the emerging talent of Rohan, Greene, and Hackeet-Slimm, positions Susquehanna for a strong showing at the championships.

Wilkes University

Despite being new to the league, Wilkes University's Colonels boast a roster that blends seasoned experience with promising talent, comprising five seniors, three juniors, one sophomore, and one first-year player under the guidance of first-year head coach Jeff Lewis.

Leading the charge is Kyleen McCance, who recently earned the title of Landmark Conference Women's Golf Athlete of the Week. McCance has been a standout performer, commanding attention with a remarkable scoring average of 81.5 over four events. In a display of her exceptional skill, she recently achieved a program-low round during a triumphant tri-match against King's College and FDU-Florham on April 13, where her impressive score of 79 catapulted her to the top of the record books and secured her medalist honors at the Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Maintaining her stellar form, McCance continued her dominance on April 14, leading the pack once again in a decisive victory against FDU-Florham with a solid score of 83 at Stone Hedge Golf Club, further solidifying her position as a key asset to the Colonels' success.

Senior Mollie Corbett leads the charge of the upperclassmen. Corbett has played in nine events and has placed in the top 10 in all nine.
