Principal's Message
Not wearing appropriate footwear at school is on the rise!
A reminder that Ugg boots, Crocs, slides, slippers, flip flops, thongs, sandals, open footwear or high heeled shoes are NOT appropriate footwear for students at school. NSW schools require students to wear enclosed, flat, supportive shoes suitable for safety and daily school activities as per the Safe Working Policy. Please support our school by making sure, every morning, your child wears appropriate covered footwear. If students present with inappropriate footwear, they will be asked to stay in the office until appropriate footwear is available. Their parents/carer will be called in to drop it off. Thank you for supporting us in keeping our students safe.
Old and Gold on the long weekend
Jodi Ridgeway, Principal at Brunswick Heads Public School, shared the following message with our school: "I just wanted to send a big thank you to your incredibly talented students for performing at our Old and Gold event on Saturday. They really helped create such a great atmosphere at the school and did a fantastic job representing Mullum High and public education." "I also wanted to let you know how impressed I was with Garry O'Halloran. He organised everything in the lead-up to the event, managed all the gear on the day, supported the students, and connected with families. He truly went above and beyond! Thanks again to you and your team for being part of the day."
Kobi Hogan recently competed in Round 3 of the NSW School Mountain Biking Series, racing against students from schools across New South Wales. Despite being one of the youngest competitors in the field, Kobi competed in the Under 15 age division against riders who were all older than him. Kobi achieved an impressive 16th place finish, a remarkable result considering he only began competitive mountain biking last year. His determination, commitment to training and willingness to challenge himself against more experienced riders were evident throughout the event. Reflecting on his performance, Kobi said he still has lots to learn, but with continued practice and determination, he is excited to keep improving and developing his skills in the sport. Well done Kobi!

NSW Country Boys Cup
On Thursday the 4th of June Mullumbimby High School was represented at the NSW Country Boys Cup in Tweed Heads. We took a team in the Under 14’s age group and played 3 games in total, all 20mins in length (no breaks). We started off the day with a win; this was against St Joseph’s (Banora Point). It was a very even match, the highlight from Mullumbimby was our solid and consistent defense. Game two we went down to a very solid Mount St Patrick's (Murwillumbah) side. It was impressive to see this side in action, they played with plenty of heart, were regimented and were a classic example of the results of hard work and training. Game three was even, with both teams scoring the same amount of tries. We did go down however, the difference being the number of tries scored under the posts. This benefited Pacific Valley Christian School’s goal kicker with some easy kicks right in front. We were into the wind and out wide on most. Tough conditions. There were many moments for the highlight reel from our 14’s boys, our forward pack leading the charge here. They really set the platform getting through plenty of work, and, unusually, topped the try count trumping their backline. Some individuals who shone through the day were Nash Kane, Hugo Baines and Tahj Kelly. Off the field the boys did our school proud, their behaviour towards officials, opposing players and coaches was outstanding. Not to mention their efforts in leaving their space clean and tidy. Many thanks to Gier for driving around and getting us home safely. We are looking to build a team for years to come, even if you haven’t played Rugby League and are interested, please enquire to Mr Binkley or Mr Imeson.
Sensitive Topics during PDHPE Classes
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is one of the key learning areas for students in Year 7 to 10. Our school’s PDHPE program aims to provide opportunities for students to learn about, and practice ways of, adopting and maintaining a healthy, productive and active life. It also involves students learning through movement experiences that are both challenging and enjoyable, and improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of contexts. It promotes the value of physical activity in their lives. Our school’s PDHPE program provides the opportunity for students to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of themselves and others, now and in the future. These issues include physical activity, mental health, drug use, road safety, sexuality and sexual health, nutrition, respectful relationships, personal safety, diversity, gender roles and discrimination. Some of the content of the program deals with sensitive issues. The school recognises this by teaching about these issues within the context of a developmentally appropriate program and by providing information to you about the program. The PDHPE program aims to encourage students to make informed decisions about their lifestyle taking into account the values of the family, culture and religion to which they belong. The school program will be implemented in a manner that supports the role of parents and caregivers, and reflects the ethos of the school community. An overview of some of the content of the PDHPE program that may be considered sensitive is provided below.
Should you wish to discuss any aspect of the course or would like more information, please contact Lachlan McKenzie on telephone 6684 2600 at the school.
Reminder of school procedures: Leaving Early, Arriving Late or Messages
GOING AWAY 5 DAYS OR MORE? A reminder to our school community that the NSW DET requires that parents arrange holiday DURING school vacations. If your family holiday is during school time, you will need to inform the School Principal in advance and submit a permission to leave from school. An application for leave should be provided at least two weeks prior to departure. Ask our office for an “Application for Leave” BEFORE the holiday. ABSENT, LATE OR EARLY? If your child is not at school, let us know they are safe. We will let you know they are not at school with an SMS message if we have not heard from you. COMING IN LATE? School starts every day at 8:50am for all students. If students arrive after that time and miss CARE (roll call), please let the school know why they are late or provide them with a note. Students need to sign in at Student Services Office as soon as they arrive on the premises. LEAVING EARLY? Only legitimate one-off appointments will be approved by the principal. A note or a phone call should be made to Student Services before 9:30am and a leave pass will be processed. MESSAGES TO STUDENTS? Please call before 2pm. Only URGENT messages will be passed on during class time. We ask that all arrangements regarding after school activities be discussed with your student BEFORE school to avoid stress and distraction.
