Welcome
Dear families,
As we enter a busy period of the academic year, we’d like to share updates on some key milestones and activities for our sixth form students.
November Mock Exams & January Exam Preparation
During November, our students have been engaged in mock exams. These exams are invaluable in helping students assess their progress and identify areas for improvement. They provide a great foundation as students prepare for their real vocational exams scheduled in January and in the Summer next year.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be supporting students with targeted sessions and personalised feedback from their mock results. We encourage students to maintain a steady focus on their studies and take full advantage of the resources and guidance available to them.
UCAS Process & University Applications
The UCAS application process remains a priority, and we are thrilled to see students submitting applications to a range of prestigious universities, including those in the Russell Group. Students are working closely with their tutor to polish personal statements and ensure all aspects of their applications reflect their strengths and ambitions. We are committed to guiding them through each stage, and we’ll continue to offer support until the January 2025 UCAS deadline.
Sixth Form Mentoring for KS3 Students
In addition to their studies, our sixth form students have started taking on mentoring roles for Key Stage 3 students. This new initiative aims to build confidence, provide academic support, and foster positive relationships across year groups. Our sixth formers are acting as role models and are helping younger students with both academic subjects and school life in general. This mentoring scheme has already had a wonderful impact on both our sixth formers and their mentees, creating a sense of community and leadership within the school.
We’re incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, resilience, and commitment during this busy period. We look forward to sharing their progress with you over the coming months.
Kind regards,
Mr York - Head of Sixth Form
Attendance This Term
With exams approaching, it is essential for students to maintain strong attendance to stay on top of their studies. Being present in lessons is key to understanding new material, engaging in class discussions, and benefiting from teachers expertise. Missing lessons can put students at a disadvantage, making it harder to catch up and adding to the pressure as exams draw closer.
We encourage parents to ensure their child attends school consistently and arrives by the 8:35 am start time each day. If an absence is unavoidable, please inform us promptly by calling the absence line or emailing Mrs Flynn at sflynn@lodgeparkacademy.co.uk. By working together, we can support students in building a solid foundation for success in their exams.
Thank you for your continued support in prioritising your child’s education.
Exciting Times as Year 13 Students Begin Receiving University Offers
Some of our Year 13 students have taken a significant step toward their futures by submitting applications to their chosen universities. The process has already started with exciting results, with several students beginning to receive offers, marking the start of an exhilarating journey toward higher education.
For those who have yet to apply, dedicated support is readily available from their form tutor, who is committed to guiding them through the process. From refining personal statements to navigating application requirements, the form tutor is eager to assist in any way necessary, ensuring that each student feels confident in their choices and well-prepared to pursue their academic goals.
This marks a thrilling time at Lodge Park Academy, with students encouraged to reach high and follow their aspirations. The whole school community shares in their excitement, proud to support Year 13 as they take these bold steps toward their future careers and academic achievements.
Mentor Program Proves a Huge Success for Sixth Form and Year 8 Students Alike
This term, several sixth form students volunteered to participate in a new mentorship program, meeting weekly to support, guide, and inspire Year 8 students. The program was designed to promote connection and growth, giving sixth formers the chance to take on a mentee, build their confidence, and be a positive role model by sharing their own experiences and insights.
Each week, mentors met with their Year 8 mentees, engaging in meaningful conversations that encouraged younger students to set ambitious goals and believe in their potential. Through these interactions, mentors worked to develop each mentee’s self-confidence and resilience, often celebrating personal milestones and progress along the way.
The mentorship program has been a tremendous success, with both mentors and mentees gaining valuable experiences and skills. Sixth formers not only learned the fundamentals of effective mentorship but also strengthened their abilities to communicate, form trusting relationships, and motivate others. Many sixth form students have expressed how much they enjoyed the opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life, and how rewarding it was to see their mentees flourish.
Throughout the program, all students demonstrated Lodge Park Academy’s core values, particularly courage, as they often had to step out of their comfort zones. For sixth formers, this meant embracing the responsibility of guiding and mentoring others, which at times could be challenging. Their commitment and determination have set an inspiring example for younger students and the wider school community.
The program has left a lasting, positive impact on both mentors and mentees, creating a stronger sense of community and encouragement within Lodge Park Academy.
Road Safety Awareness Sessions for Year 12 and 13 Students
We are pleased to share that our recent road safety awareness sessions for Year 12 and Year 13 students were a great success, with all students finding the experience engaging, valuable, and deeply impactful.
In collaboration with the Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance, students watched a compelling video where survivors of a local collision spoke about the incident, the aftermath, and the emotional and physical toll it has taken on their lives. The video, commissioned by a partnership between the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Kier Highways, brought a real-life perspective to the often-overlooked consequences of risky driving.
The Year 12 presentation highlighted a true story involving four teenagers, illustrating how quickly a single misjudgment can lead to tragedy. Students learned about the importance of making safe decisions, whether as a driver or a passenger, and discussed the commitment required to obtain a driving license.
For Year 13 students, the session focused on the potential consequences of unsafe driving behaviours, including the ease of losing a license, common causes of collisions, and strategies for staying safe. A key part of the session emphasised the importance of avoiding driving after drinking. Students were shown that even the next morning, residual alcohol or medication could impair their ability to drive. One student offered to take a breathalyser test after using a breath freshener spray, which sparked a discussion about how even such seemingly harmless products can sometimes contribute to a false positive or cause a person to be over the legal limit.
Students were engaged throughout and found the sessions valuable and eye-opening. We believe these experiences will encourage them to adopt safer practices on the roads and empower them to make more informed choices as young drivers and passengers.
Trip to Corby Cube – Jack and the Beanstalk Pantomime
Our Sixth Form students recently enjoyed a delightful trip to the Corby Cube to watch the timeless pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. This festive event was the perfect way to wrap up the term and get everyone in the Christmas spirit. The students were thoroughly entertained by the lively performances, colorful costumes, and hilarious characters on stage.
There were plenty of laughs, and even a few interactive moments that had everyone cheering and clapping along, making it a truly memorable experience. It was heartwarming to see our students bonding and sharing in the excitement of this holiday tradition.
The trip to the Corby Cube was a fantastic way to mark the end of the term, bringing joy to students and staff alike. This wonderful outing has left us all feeling ready for the holiday season and eager for the celebrations ahead!

Another Busy Term For Our Leadership Team
This term, our Student Leadership Team at Lodge Park Academy has been hard at work, making a positive impact on the school community and beyond. Meeting weekly, our leaders have connected with student representatives from each form group, promoting a platform for students to voice their ideas, concerns, and initiatives. These house meetings have been invaluable in ensuring that every student has a voice, while also helping to shape the direction of the events that have enriched our school community.
A highlight of this term has been the team’s dedication to supporting their chosen local charity. The leaders have worked hard to organise events, raising awareness for their chosen cause. Their commitment has demonstrated the power of coming together to support those in need and has been a fantastic example of community-minded leadership.
The team has also played a vital role in helping to organise upcoming house competitions, bringing students from different years together in fun and engaging activities that celebrate school spirit. These events have not only been a fantastic way for students to bond but have also built a sense of Lodge Park Academy community across the school.
This week, the Student Leadership Team played an essential part in our Armistice Day commemoration, ensuring that the school community paid respectful tribute to those who served. Their attention to detail and respect for tradition were evident, making it a truly memorable occasion.
As the term draws to a close, our leadership team members are preparing to hand over their responsibilities to the Year 12 students. This transition allows them to focus on their upcoming exams, but we are sure they’ll continue to be involved and offer support to the new leaders whenever they can.
We are incredibly grateful for all the hard work, enthusiasm, and creativity our Student Leadership Team has shown. They have truly been role models, inspiring their peers and making everyone at Lodge Park Academy proud. To our departing leaders: thank you for your dedication, and best of luck in your studies. You’ve set a fantastic example, and your impact will undoubtedly carry on in the work of the new team.
