Rivers Casino Philadelphia Announces 'Riversuites'

Rivers Casino Philadelphia is going all out with its hotel plans.

The casino has announced that it will open a 62 Suite boutique luxury hotel inside The Battery, an ongoing mixed-life campus on Fishtown Beach Street.

The new casino hotel will be called a "riversuit," and it promises a luxurious experience. The luxury hotel will occupy the four floors dedicated to The Battery's existing adaptive reuse complex, which will be rare for Philly, a waterfront hotel. The casino will be able to take reservations as early as this fall.

Rooms average 854 square feet by hotel standards, with larger options up to 2,266 square feet. There are one-, two-, and three-bedroom accommodations available. All suites include a full kitchen. Several apartment-style suites have bedrooms upstairs and a patio or two-story lobby with a living room and kitchen below.

Undisturbed views of the Delaware River pass the Ben Franklin Bridge over the Pennsylvania and New Jersey coastlines. Along the side of the road running parallel to the river, hotel guests can enjoy one of Philly's most popular neighborhoods, Fishtown.

With Fishtown's walkable streets and up-and-coming cultural and culinary offerings, Riversweet guests will be a step away from a growing inventory of trendy restaurants, coffee shops, craft breweries, distilleries, retailers, galleries and other recreations.

"The hotel addition at Rivers Casino Philadelphia has always been part of the master plan for the Fishtown property," said Tim Drewkov, CEO of Rivers Casino and Rush Street Gaming. "The location and grandeur of the battery, along with the importance of historic Philadelphia, have enabled us to join neighborhood parcels already underway."

In addition to its proximity to Fishtown, its foreground and partnership with the casino itself, Riversweet will boast several traditional and unconventional amenities, such as co-working spaces, lobby meeting spaces, billiard tables and indoor basketball courts.

Battery is an architectural stuntman designed in the classical revival style of Beaux-Arts by renowned century transition architect John Windrim. Windrim's prolific portfolio also includes residences for the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Court, and Provost in Penn.

Before the Delaware power plant, an 11-acre beachfront street complex was commissioned as a PECO power plant in the early 1900s. By the 1950s, it was the largest utility company to power nearly half of Philadelphia. Eight chimneys, 167 feet tall, will remain historic architectural elements.

Today, Batteries is a $154 million redevelopment initiative currently underway by Philadelphia-based owner Loubert Adler Real Estate Fund. The revitalization phase includes 173 apartments, 135,000 square feet of office space, and 100,000 square feet of event space, which is now a hotel.

"We saw an opportunity to create a wonderful experience on the waterfront in Philadelphia, where it could be a home for residential communities, as well as an eclectic mix of commercial companies that would attract people to an area of the city that was previously underused at the old PECO plant," said Leonard Clare, vice president of Rubert Adler. "As our first residents move in and Rivers Casino announces plans for a beautiful new hotel overlooking the river, we're excited to see our vision for this project come to fruition, and we're excited to welcome them with batteries."

The casino's 22-acre waterfront site is already connected to batteries via Delaware Riverwalk through picturesque Pennsylvania Treaty Park. The two sites are an eight-minute walk away or a five-minute drive away. Rivers operates a free 24/7 shuttle with 24/7 security and will offer 24/7 valet parking.

Riversuits will be operated by Rivers Casino Philadelphia, which is owned and operated by Rush Street Gaming and its affiliates. The Old Architect of Chicago is designing the Riversuits Hotel. Strada of Philadelphia is an architect of batteries.

"Visitors and out-of-town guests have long inquired about an overnight stay at Rivers Casino Philadelphia, and they will soon get a penthouse-style option," said Eric Altaus, the casino's general manager. The Riversweet Hotel project is a $7 million privately funded investment. The new hotel will add more than 40 permanent hospitality jobs to the casino's existing workforce of more than 1,100 people. The battery's Riversweet is expected to open by the end of 2023.
