This is a Data Collection and Analysis assignment in which you will use what you have learned so far about animation to collect and analyze data about the films in the Jurassic Park film franchise. You will be asked to complete this assignment in seven (7) parts.
Common Core Educational Standards (Science and Math)
In Part 1 of this assignment, students will obtain information from a secondary source to design and implement a plan to address the investigative questions about each of the films in the media franchise.
In the lesson about Types of Animation, the dinosaurs in the film Jurassic Park (1993) are cited as examples of 3D animation. According to Wikipedia.org, Jurassic Park is an American science fiction media franchise created by Michael Crichton (pronounced KRY-tun). His book titled Jurassic Park, was adapted into a feature film in 1993 and was directed by successful Academy-Award winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg. The other films in that franchise are The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022). Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to be released in 2025.
Instructions
For this project, you will look up information about the six (6) films in the Jurassic Park media franchise. You will not need to have looked at the films prior to completing this assignment. However, you might want to watch each of them as you complete each part of this project. If you are able to, I encourage you to do so as it will help you to learn about each of the films as you complete each of the assignments. Part 1 of the assignment involves collecting data. In Part 2, you will make a table to show the information you have collected. In Parts 3-7, you will make a series of graphs that also display the information that you gather about each of the films.
Part 1 – Collecting Data
Watch the video “What is data?”
Visit Wikipedia.org to gather information about each of the films in the Jurassic Park film franchise to answer the following questions:
1. Where did filming take place for each film?
2. What is the setting of each film?
3. Where did each film premiere? What was the location of the premiere of each film?
You will be able to find this information about each of the films in the introductory section on the Wikipedia page for the film. The Filming section will have information about where filming took place. Also, the Release section of the film may have information about the premiere. Be aware that the settings for the films may also be included in the explanation of the Plot for the film.
The following video was published April 28, 2017, on YouTube by VHS Video vault. It shows an old interview in which movie director Steven Spielberg answers questions about making Jurassic Park.
