Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter

FRIDAY 20th MARCH 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a lovely week it has been. The sunshine has lifted everyone’s spirits and encouraged our pupils to spend more time outdoors, enjoying learning and play in the fresh air. Today’s Red Nose Day celebrations have brought an extra splash of colour and fun to school, with pupils and staff proudly dressed in red in support of a fantastic cause.   Just a quick reminder that we will be finishing for the Easter break next Friday, 27th March and on Monday we are very much looking forward to sharing our Estyn inspection report with you.   Wishing you all a very happy and restful weekend.

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Headteacher

Our Week at Tir Morfa
Famau played rugby at Colwyn Bay and were very good sports.
This week Dosbarth Enfys started our easter celebrations by exploring and making some chocolate crispy cakes. It was a very messy experience.
Aled Class have been developing their independent skills in shop, cook and eat this week. They all contributed to making spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread.
Being out in the sunshine was so much fun this week. We searched for mini- beasts and looked at them with a magnify glass, they were very interesting. We made bird feeders and hung them from the trees, and we also made bark rubbings. We found many flowers, and enjoyed running around in the fresh air. Bendigedig Dosbarth Alwen!
Primary age pupils from Brenig Class demonstrated some excellent bowling skills whilst competing in the finals of the North Wales Ten Pin Finals. They were all very proud of their medals.
Dosbarth Haul have enjoyed exploring the outdoors this week.
Exploring the nights sky as part of our Journey through Wales sensory session.
Dosbarth Lleuad have enjoyed the sunshine this week ☀️, spending time exploring our new outdoor toys. We have also explored sensory play and working alongside each other.
Siabod had a lovely visit from the therapy dogs. The pupils really enjoyed it.
The boys in Tegid visited the garden centre to collect some pots they have donated to our enterprise. While they were there they looked at ideas to develop our outdoor space, they also priced the fish for our pond in the front of school.

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
