Autumn Term Update
As the winter break approaches, take a look at our latest update on the ongoing campus development projects and what's been happening throughout the Autumn term.
West Slope
West Slope is our biggest development underway on campus, adding more student accommodation options as well as wellbeing and social spaces. Construction work will be ongoing for the next few years across the site.
There are three main buildings currently under construction within the West Slope development site – two new residential blocks near Lewes Court and a new Health and Wellbeing Centre opposite the Student Centre. There will be construction noise in the immediate area of the construction site, and from construction vehicles around the site, as well as elsewhere on campus.

Win Prizes in our Student Spaces Survey
Got a favourite café? Love the Library? Have an opinion on the campus supermarket? Take our Students Spaces Survey to tell us what you love about campus, and what could be even better.
Share your thoughts on everything from study spaces, shops on campus, your accommodation, social spaces, accessibility and more to be in with a chance of winning a £50 Munch Money voucher or one of five £10 Munch Money vouchers to spend in campus cafés.
Tell us how you travel to and from campus in our Travel Survey.
Campus is always evolving, and with our first West Slope buildings opening in 2026, we are creating a new Travel Plan to encourage sustainable travel. In the survey we will ask about your travel habits to and from campus, and your views on sustainable travel initiatives. Take part for your chance to win a £50 Munch Money voucher or one of five £10 Munch Money vouchers to spend in campus cafés.
Faster internet
We are replacing our entire wired and wireless network on campus with a modern, fast and efficient new service.
Over the next few months, there will be some groundworks / roadworks in the Northfield and Lewes Court area to install ducting for new cabling.
If you do have any issues with your internet, please contact Wifinity.
Living sustainably on campus
As part of our initiative to become more sustainable and reach our Net Zero target by 2035, we have been looking for ways to save energy and natural resources. As winter break approaches, make a big impact by utilising radiators properly and turning off all lights, and electronic devices when they’re not in use. Too warm? Turn your radiator down or off by turning the valve clockwise. Too cold? Check your window! Make sure all vents are closed. And don’t forget to leave everything turned off if you are heading off for the holidays.
Also, this term, every residence on campus received dedicated recycling bags to make eco-friendly choices easier. Use these bags to carry your recyclables to the ‘mixed recycling’ bins (for plastic bottles, cardboard, paper, and cans) and the ‘mixed glass’ bins (for glass bottles and jars). Read more about this initiative on the Student Hub.
Making our buildings more energy efficient
In Essex House, single-glazed windows have been upgraded to double-glazed windows for better insulation, and south-facing and elevated windows also feature solar control glazing to reduce heat from the sun. This will improve energy efficiency and reduce the building’s overall energy consumption and the work is expected to be completed this winter. We expect disruption to nearby residents to be minimal.
