The Variety Show

by: Aubrey Coupe

Hey you reading this! Do you want to know what happened in the variety show? If you didn't come this year, you should check it out next year and cheer on your friends that are in the show!

The audience arrived at Northley Middle School where they were greeted by a concession stand where you could buy some snacks for the show. Some students were handing out programs as people walked into the auditorium. Then the lights dimmed. When the show began, the acts were introduced by other students. "Get ready to be amazed with some wonderful dance moves" the students may have said, and then the curtain opened.

Let me tell you about some of my favorite acts. My friend Daisy danced and my other friend Presley did an amazing gymnastics routine. There were many singers like my friend Zoe, who sang In the Stars by Benson Boone. I also sang! My song choice was Risk by Gracie Abrams. A 5th grader named Colton sang Defying Gravity from Wicked and Jax sang Let It be by The Beatles. There were a lot of acts and I do not have the space to name them all. We saw lots of dances, heard some beautiful singing voice, rocked out to a good rap from The Fresh Prince and saw some astounding magic tricks.

The teachers came out and did a surprise dance where they were in inflatable shark costumes and danced to some ocean themed music, like Under the Sea, and Baby Shark. The whole audience laughed and clapped. It was a huge hit!

Don't miss out on this wonderful show next year!

Class Valentine's Day Party!

By: Brooklyn Pyatt

Every year on February 14 we celebrate a holiday known as Valentines day. Some classrooms have parties or do something special to celebrate. In my classroom, some of us signed up to bring snacks. If students want, they bring valentines to pass out to their classmates. Some classes make special mailboxes to put Valentines in, and other classrooms decorate special bags to collect their goodies in. Then each student walks around and passes out the treats they brought to their class. It is just a fun way to celebrate each other and make others feel good by showing them that we think they are special.

Student Council

by C’Asia Henderson

In student council we work on supporting our community, like collect food, money, and things for homeless shelters.. Right now we are working on videos that have to do with our monthly habit the school focuses on from Leader In Me. You can check out one of the videos here.

We also have been working on a proposal to get a Little Library for outside of Parkside Elementary. This is a place that the community can go to get a new book to read. The great part is, when you are finished reading it, you can put it back. You can also put in books that you have already read, that way other people can enjoy them. We are asking our PTL for support in this project. We are very excited and hope to see a Little Library soon.

The One Hundredth Day of School

By: Charlotte Cantwell

Every year Parkside celebrates the 100th hundredth day of school as an activity for the kids! The downstairs classes and some of the upstairs celebrate this day with fun activities. This year blew by so fast, we couldn't believe it when the 100th day was here!

Some of the fun things we do to celebrate is dressing up. The students can choose to dress as what they would look like if they were 100. It's a fun activity to get the kids excited! Lots of the kids go all out and dress up as grandmas and grandpas, and sometimes even canes to add to the fit! All of the kids love to participate in this activity since it's so fun and funny too!

The students do a lot of different activities based around the number 100. There were 100 second challenges, writing their names 100 times, listening to a 100th day read aloud, going on a classroom number hunt, and counting 100 shapes. The students love celebrating how far they made it into the school year.

Specials

By: Madison Madigan

Hey parents, do you want to know what we are doing in special? First, let's go over the specials that we have. There's gym, technology, art, music, and guidance.

We are learning about kindness, manners and habits in guidance. We have been doing Leader In Me to learn about these habits we can use. We also learn about them in our classroom. The whole school is practicing them.

In gym your child needs to wear sneakers because we need to keep our feet safe for all the running around we do. We play different games because the Eagles won the Super Bowl, we got to play football but with a soft ball. We do other fun things like relay races with our teams.

Next is technology. In 3d grade, we are working on engineering a tower and it has to pass a sake test. Some of the items we use are straws, pipe cleaners, and tape, to build our towers.

In art, we learn about different artists and the styles that they made their work. 3rd grade has been working on drawing a heart with some lines going through and then coloring the outside of the heart cold colors and the inside warm colors.

Last but not least, music! In 3rd grade, we are learning how to play the ukulele! Other classes sing song and learn how to play other simple instruments. Now you know all about

EAGLES

by Zoe Dougherty

The Eagles are an awesome sports team. Some people don’t like the Eagles but after this story you will love them. The Eagles are an NFL Football team and you should watch them on tv or you can buy a ticket and go to a game.

On February 9, 2025 the Eagles played the Chiefs in the Super Bowl . The Eagles have really good players even though Jason Kelce retired. To celebrate the Eagles before the big game, we had a pep rally. There were all types of games, people sang the National Anthem, the band played the Eagles fight song, we had our own Parkside cheerleaders perform a dance and all grades came up with a cheer to sing out loud.

The Eagles are known for their green color. Everyone who is an Eagles fan wore green or shirts that said Eagles. The whole gym was a sea of green. It was a great way to get excited for the game.

GO BIRDS !!!

Mrs. Bilski

By: Julian Wagner

Hello, I'm Julian Wagner. I asked the “new” fifth grade teacher, who joined Parkside last year, Mrs. Bilski, some questions and here are my results.

These were the questions that I asked her so you can understand when I give further information. 1. how long she's been teaching 2. what she likes to do in her free time 3. her favorite subject to teach 4. what she wanted to be when she grew up 5. when is her birthday 6. what is her favorite sport 7. does she have any pets 8. what is her favorite show/movie/documentary 9. why she wanted to be a teacher and 10. does she have any kids.

When I asked Mrs Bilski how long she's been teaching for, she said she's been teaching for 16 YEARS. That's a big number.

Next, I asked her what she likes to do in her free time. She likes to read or eat dinner with her family.

Next, I asked what her favorite subject she likes to teach and she responded that she likes math the most.

When I asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up she said she wanted to be a teacher like she is now!

I found out her birthday she said may 15th. If you see Mrs. Bilski on the 15th of May, say happy birthday!

I found out her favorite sport is football and she does not have any pets.

Then I asked what her favorite movie /show /documentary was and she said she loves the movie Moana. It is a good movie.

Then i asked her why she wanted to be a teacher and she said that she wanted to help kids like her second grade teacher.

Finally I asked her if she had any kids and she said two, one is 5 and one is 8.

Now you know more about Mrs. Bilski!
