Whitkirk News! 04th April 2025

A message from Miss Quarmby

Hello everyone! I can hardly believe we’ve reached the Easter holidays already—another half term has flown by! It’s been a fantastic six weeks filled with incredible achievements, and we couldn’t be prouder. We had the pleasure of showcasing our outstanding Year 1 provision across the Trust, our Year 6 children had an unforgettable time on their residential, writing has been thriving across the school, and we enjoyed our very first visit to Temple Newsam House as part of our Art project.

A huge well done to everyone for helping us achieve our whole-school attendance target this half term! Our attendance stands at an impressive 96.9%, surpassing our goal of 96.5%. Thank you so much for your continued support—let’s keep up the momentum next half term, as every single day in school truly makes a difference!

Looking ahead, we have some exciting things coming up. Wednesday 16th April is Primary School National Offer Day, and while this falls during the Easter holidays, we’ll be in school to take calls and accept places. We’ll also be working on information for our nursery provision over the break. We’ve already had a fantastic response from families, so if you’re interested in a place for September 2025 or beyond, please get in touch with the office soon—places are filling up fast! We’ll share more details after the holidays.

When we return, we’ll be heading straight into assessment season, with Year 6 SATs, phonics screening, and the Year 4 Multiplication Check on the horizon. Our children have been working incredibly hard, and we’ll have one final push to support them in the weeks ahead.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter break! Enjoy the time with family and friends, and we’ll see you back at school on Tuesday 22nd April for the start of another fantastic term.Thank you, as always, for your support!

Attendance

This week, our overall attendance was 94.39%! This isn't quite at our school attendance target: let's see if we can get back up to 96.5% next week. A huge well done to 1JL for achieving the highest attendance at an incredible 98.47%!

Let's take a look AT WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON THIS WEEK

EYFS

We could not be prouder of the progress our Reception children have made in writing this half term. Their independence has grown tremendously, and they are becoming much more confident in recalling phonics sounds and reading back their own writing. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and perseverance develop - we can’t wait to see how they continue to progress!

Key Stage 1

This week, our Year 1 students delved into the world of Art and Music! During their Art Digital Media Day, they created stunning pictures inspired by Georges Seurat and the technique of pointillism, showcasing their creativity and attention to detail. In their music afternoon, they used body percussion and various instruments to craft unique soundscapes, exploring rhythm and sound in an engaging way.

This week, in Design and Technology, Year 2 have sewn a blanket fit for a royal baby! In English, we have been busy writing clear and detailed instructions. In Maths, our fraction superstars have been exploring halves, thirds, and quarters through exciting investigations.

Lower Key Stage 2

What a great end to term! 3RD were able to visit Temple Newsam House this week to begin an exciting Art project. From sewing projects, to making musical soundscapes, we have had a blast!

Well, it's a wrap and it's step closer to our amazing Year 4s become Year 5s! We've had a fantastic week, which started with the girls' football team winning two, drawing one and narrowly losing the last match on Monday night. When then had a brilliant day (with the odd frustrating technical issue!) creating our own self-portraits in the style of Julian Opie. Finally, we recapped factors and common factors and got to grips with finding fractions of amounts in maths.

Upper Key Stage 2

UKS2 have truly shone this week with their fabulous sewing skills. The children took into consideration their design brief and used their prior knowledge of the running, back and blanket stitches to begin creating their cushions! We are super impressed with the children's sewing knowledge and textile skills. Well done UKS2.

Year 6 have had a fantastic week! We have completed our last practice assessments before we have our SATs in May. The children have shown incredible determination, resilience and effort whilst completing these tests and we couldn't be any more proud of them! Well done Year 6! Please keep an eye out for the letter sent home about home learning over Easter from Miss Tomlinson.
