AUGUST 2024 EDITION

Distinguished Alumni and Rising Star Honorees Announced

As the university’s most prestigious honor, the Javelina Alumni Association names Distinguished Alumni in recognition of their abundant success professionally and personally, through which they have positively represented and brought honor to their alma mater.

This year’s Distinguished Alumni are Javier Peña, Dr. Tadeo Reyna ’71, ’82; and Presnall Cage ’68. The 2024 Rising Star honoree is Michelle Zapata ’13. Each honoree will be recognized at an event on campus in the Memorial Student Union Building on Friday, Oct. 18th, during the Javelina Homecoming celebration.

Library Renovation for Students

The Jernigan Library has transformed their third floor into 23,000 square feet of flexible-use space with whiteboards, couches and more. Whether collaborating with a group or studying on their own, Javelinas will have a comfortable, functional place to learn.

"I believe the 3rd floor of the library will be a collaborative, safe and inclusive space for all students to study, hang out with friends and even catch a nap on campus. As Student Body President, I will continue to advocate for more student space and make all of our students feel welcomed." -Harley Davis
