Edge Hill Estate, one of the most historic wine estates in Napa Valley was originally deeded to General Erasmus by Abraham Lincoln in the early 1800s. After several quick successions, the property was retained as a wine estate. Prior to Prohibition, Louis Martini bought the winery. It became a clandestine operation providing sacramental wines during this time and was one of the first wineries to reopen following Prohibition. Louis Martini domiciled here while creating Louis Martini Winery until his wife Elizabeth sold it to Leslie Rudd in 2000. Leslie was a great man who believed in preserving the history of this property and embarked on restoring it and modernizing for current wine making needs over the next 18 years until his recent passing. The distillery building was retrofitted and restored to the original footprint. Each stone was removed and put back in its original place. At the same time, he teamed up with renowned architect, Howard Backen to modernize the winery and caves to create an unbelievably beautiful 3-story winery. The property has had the privilege of working with the same contractor and team who have restored this historic estate and can be an asset to all the intricacies and assets to completing it. They can lend their expertise for the new owner in returning this magical estate to its remarkable legacy.
In 2022, Joel Gott acquired the EH Winery Estate to complete Leslie Rudd’s intention and dream. Due to other business endeavors that need full attention, he is ready to pass the rare gem to the next steward who understands the rareness of this opportunity and be the one who brings it back to all its glory in the modern age. He has been working non-stop on the estate since in inception to bring it to where it is today.
Nestled in the center of the 23.4± acre Valley Floor Historic Estate with exceptional visitation permissions is the 3-story gravity-fed winery completely retrofitted, with new underground caves and a 24,000-gallon permit.
The 1880 Distillery (No. 209) completely retrofitted, sits at the forefront of the Estate. It has the best entrance for guests in Napa Valley hands down. As you pass through the tunnel and park on the right, your guests will walk down and up ivy laden tunnels of stairs to several ultimate hospitality venues. This experience will be the beginning of an experience that is unrivaled.
