A Prayer for Our Steele Hill Church Family, Friends and Community

Heavenly Father, We thank You for the gift of our church family and the love that binds us together. Bless every home represented in our fellowship. Strengthen those who are weary, comfort those who are hurting, and fill each heart with Your peace. Guide us to walk in unity, serve with compassion, and shine Your light in our community. May Your presence go before us in all we do. Amen.

A Prayer for Those Who Grieve

Merciful God, Wrap Your loving arms around our families and friends who are walking through seasons of loss. Bring them quiet moments of peace when the ache feels heavy, and remind them that they are never alone. Strengthen their hearts, steady their steps, and surround them with compassion that reflects Your own. May Your promise of eternal life bring hope, and may Your presence bring comfort that endures. Amen.

A Prayer for the Class of 2026 Gracious God, We lift up our graduates, the Class of 2026, with grateful hearts. Bless these students as they step into new chapters—guide their choices, strengthen their character, and surround them with Your peace. We pray also for the teachers and mentors who have poured wisdom, patience, and love into their lives. Renew their energy and fill them with joy as they continue shaping future generations. May Your hand be upon every path ahead, and may each graduate walk boldly in the purpose You have prepared for them. Amen

Lesson 1

Acceptance & Rejection

Jason was a young teenager with major emotional problems. He had been on drugs, in and out of juvenile court, and was often in trouble. He was a loner and had virtually no friends. One of the worst parts of the day was lunch. He always sat at the same table in the school cafeteria, not with kids that were friends that he could talk to, but with kids that were neutral and at least didn’t reject him. One day there was just one seat left at that table, but when he went to sit down, the class bully kicked the chair away and told the other kids to spread out their elbows and not let Jason get in. Jason eventually shoved his way in and later, for a reason not relevant to this part of the story, got suspended for three days.  1. Are you ever the bully? In what way? Are you ever like the kids who spread their elbows? How? When? Do you ever feel like Jason? When? Why?  2. Thinking of the kids at the table, why are Christians so often afraid to speak out and take a stand for what is right? Are you willing to tell someone he is drinking too much? That he has a problem with anger? That he is a hypocrite?  3. Are you willing to stand up for what is true? For what you know is right? Speak out when someone in your group, possibly even the leader, is going in the wrong direction? (Mark 2:15-17) Be careful that you are not overly judgmental.  4. When Jesus went back to Capernaum, he was rejected (Mark 2:15-17). Why? Do we sometimes reject someone we know too well? Are we sometimes rejected because we are too well known? What can or should we do about this tendency?  5. What hinders us from listening and learning from the people we know well?  6. Jesus was also rejected by the Pharisees for his radical teaching. Many people continue to reject it today. Why do some people accept his teaching and others not? (John 12:37-50, especially 12:42-43)  7. You’re on a missions trip. The leader has a heart for Christ but, you soon learn, the  brain of a hamster. You a) bail out as soon as possible, b) make the most of it, c) vow to  never go on another trip with that organization, d) speak to the leader, e) talk to the  other participants about the idiot leader, or f)__________________.

Notes:

  1. We all wrestle with the same thing: the Sickness of Sin
  2. Move "Me" out of the way
  3. God is calling you to do something different - We may be afraid of something different
  4. Danger in the unknown

June 2: Lesson 2: Suffering

1. Is suffering universal, i.e., do we all suffer? (Ezekiel 21:4, John 16:33) A) Yes, everyone suffers. B) Most people suffer, but some do not. 2. It seems that some people suffer more than others. Why is this? (Isaiah 55:8-9, Psalm 73:16-17, 135:6) A) They were bad and God is punishing them. B) It is God’s will, but not his punishment. C) You sow what you reap. D) They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. E) It is random chance. F) No one knows.

3, Does the Lord sometimes desert you in your suffering? (Isaiah 41:10, Lamentations 3:19-24, Philippians 4:6-7) After all, if God deserted Jesus (briefly) when he was dying on the cross, why wouldn’t he desert you? (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34) 4. Is it sometimes good to suffer? Is there a benefit to it? Are there reasons for suffering? (Psalm 119:71, Romans 5:3-4, James 1:2-4, John 9:1-3) 5. Could God possibly allow some pain and suffering to get your attention? (Psalm 94:12, 119:71)

6. In addition to getting your attention, do you think God might allow suffering as part of his refining process? (Job 23:10, 33:14-20, Psalm 66:10, Proverbs 17:3, Isaiah 48:10) 7. Have you personally experienced suffering as part of God’s refining process? How? When? Did it work? Did it last or is it something that God must repeat over and over? Why?

Gracious and Almighty God, We lift before You the Lancaster District—our fellowship of 22 churches united in purpose, mission, and love. Thank You for the rich tapestry of believers, ministries, and communities that make up this district. Strengthen every pastor, leader, and member as they labor faithfully in Your vineyard. Surround him with Your protection and peace as he guides this district with integrity and compassion. Bless each congregation with renewed commitment to discipleship, outreach, and spiritual growth. Let every sanctuary be a place where Your presence is felt, Your Word is proclaimed, and Your people are empowered to serve. Unify us in love. Ignite us with purpose. Equip us for the work ahead. Elections 2026

SC Congressman Jim Clyburn

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Tuesday said the Palmetto State’s record-breaking early voter turnout could be attributed to residents’ anger over Republicans’ redistricting measure.  “People were upset that this was taking place. And people tend to vote when they get angry. And people were very angry,” Clyburn told reporters hours after casting his ballot in Orangeburg, S.C.  “I watched some of the interviews that were taking place at polling places today. And I don’t know if I’ve ever seen voters as animated as I saw them today,” he added.   A total of 44,600 people voted in person by 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, nearly doubling the previous record for a single day of early voting in a primary election, according to the South Carolina Daily Gazette.  Voters turned up in droves as the South Carolina state Senate considered a plan to advance a new congressional map that would put Clyburn’s majority-minority district in danger.

Ultimately, lawmakers struck down the measure in a 26-18 vote, rejecting President Trump’s push for the state to redraw its congressional maps.

In short, Clyburn’s impact on South Carolina is both political and symbolic: he has sustained a Democratic presence in a conservative state, influenced federal policy, and defended the state’s voting rights legacy, making him a central figure in South Carolina’s political landscape. Before Barack Obama, Clyburn was the highest-ranking African American in U.S. legislative or executive history KUOW. He has served as the No. 3 Democrat in Congress for years, behind Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer Wikipedia. His 2020 endorsement of Joe Biden revitalized the Democratic campaign in South Carolina.

Early Voting Kicked Off on May 26 for SC June Primaries

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 22, 2026) – The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) is reminding voters that they don’t have to wait until Election Day, Tuesday, June 9, to cast their vote. Voters can make their voices heard as early as next week, during the early voting period. “Early voting provides voters with additional options,” says Conway Belangia, Executive Director of the State Election Commission. “Whether voting before going on vacation or avoiding lines at their polling location, voters have flexibility in how they cast their ballot. Some voters may still prefer to vote on primary day, June 9, and should choose the option that works best for them. Voters should review the early voting locations and schedules for their county before casting their ballot, as some locations may have changed.”

Media Ministry is exploring Tik Tok. When we talk about a "tik tok church" strategy, we're really talking about modern-day evangelism. It’s about meeting people where they already are—scrolling on their phones. This means creating short, genuine videos that share messages of hope, faith, and community to connect with a global audience, especially younger generations who might never set foot in a church building.
