Calling for Christmas Hamper donations

Let's make a difference for a local family in need this Christmas!

The Kindness Project is once again organising their annual Christmas Hampers to support families in need through the Bunjum Aboriginal Corporation. Our Student Representative Council (SRC) is proud to partner with this important initiative to bring some festive cheer to those who may be doing it tough this year.

Let’s come together to spread kindness and support this worthy cause.

We invite you to join us in making a difference by contributing items to put together a hamper for a family in need. Whether it’s non-perishable food, toiletries, gifts, or school items, every donation helps create a brighter Christmas for this family in our community.

The family that we are collecting for consists of:

  • Mum and dad
  • 2 x girls (14 and 15 years old)
  • 2 x boys (10 and 12 years old)

Please have a look at the list of items in the flyer below that are needed to support this family. All donations can be dropped into the basket in our office foyer before Friday 12 December. Thank you for helping us make this season a little brighter for those who need it most!

Please remember all items must be new, un-opened, in-date and non-perishable.

No alcohol, scratchies or cigarettes... and please do not wrap any gifts.

Year 11 Presentation Assembly

A Year 11 milestone... Celebrating the completion of their Preliminary Studies!

Last Friday, 21 November, we proudly celebrated our Year 11 students as they completed their Preliminary coursework.

The Presentation Assembly was a wonderful opportunity for both students, parents and staff to come together and acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our students throughout the year. During the assembly, each student had the chance to walk across the stage and receive well-deserved certificates and their school reports, recognising their efforts and accomplishments in a variety of subjects and extracurricular activities.

It was inspiring to see the confidence and pride displayed by our students as they celebrated not only their individual successes but also the support and camaraderie within the Year 11 cohort. We congratulate all students on reaching this important milestone and look forward to their continued growth and success in the coming year.

In his opening speech, Year 11 Year Advisor, Mr Humphreys said:

"As we head into our final year together, I'm excited. Truly excited. I look forward to another year of memories, growth, laughter, questionable decisions, and leadership that continues to exceed expectations."

Well done to all our Year 11 students and their teachers. Let's bring on a fantastic final year in 2026!

Our inaugural Golf Day is a huge hit!

An awesome day on the golf course

Our inaugural Golf Day was a fantastic success! Teams of 4 were paired with a mentor who shared tips and tricks to help keep the ball somewhere near the fairway — a lifelong challenge for every golfer!

Students tackled 9 holes (well… we made it through 7 thanks to the clock!), and the vibe was brilliant. There was plenty of laughter, plenty of walking, and plenty of cheers — along with a few friendly digs when shots took an unexpected turn. Birdies, pars, bogeys… every moment was celebrated.

One of the highlights? The impressive way students could recall every shot they took and exactly which hole it was on. If only that level of memory transferred to the classroom!

All in all, it was an awesome day with a great bunch of students.

Our SRC heads out for some laser tag fun

Enjoying some active team time together

On Tuesday, the Byron Bay High School Student Representative Council (SRC) team headed out for a well-deserved laser tag excursion. After a busy term of planning events, running fundraisers, and representing our student body, the chance to unwind and strengthen our teamwork in a more energetic setting was welcomed by everyone.

From the moment the first game began, the arena filled with laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of dramatic dodging behind obstacles. While the games were fast-paced and lots of fun, they also reminded us how important communication, strategy, and collaboration are; skills we use every day as SRC members.

Watching students pair up, plan tactics, and support one another highlighted the strong sense of unity within our team.

The excursion not only allowed us to celebrate our hard work, but also helped deepen the bonds that make our SRC such an effective and positive group. We returned to school happy and smiling, and we remain proud of all our SRC members and of their continued efforts as the leaders of our student body.

Brewing Success

Year 10 dive into the world of café service with a barista course at TAFE

A group Year 10 students recently took part in a hands-on Barista course at the Byron Bay TAFE, giving them the chance to experience the fast paced world of café service.

Under the guidance of an experienced TAFE trainer, students learned how to operate commercial espresso machines, grind beans, texture milk, and pour classic coffees with confidence. They also explored the importance of customer service, food safety, and teamwork, skills that are essential in any hospitality role.

The course offered students a valuable glimpse into future career pathways, with trainers highlighting the strong demand for skilled baristas across the Northern Rivers region.

Many students returned to school excited about their new abilities and the possibility of future work or study in hospitality. The experience was not only practical and engaging, but also a fun opportunity for students to build confidence while mastering a new skill.
