Grading the top 10 free agent signings and trades so far

#9: DK Metcalf to Steelers

The DK Metcalf trade was great for the Steelers as a team but Metcalf hasn’t really been as good as expected so far being 23rd in receiving yards per game, but Aaron Rodger’s has really benefited from it. Without Metcalf I don’t know who he would have to throw too because beside Metcalf, Jaylen Warren is there leading reciever and 2nd would be Calvin Austin who only averages 34 yards per game. DK Metcalf only averages 3 catches a game but he is one of the best receivers after the catch being the 2nd best reciever in that stat after Puka Nacua. The Steelers have been able to generate more big plays with Metcalf and this really helped the Steelers.

Grade: B+

#8: Aaron Rodger’s traded to Steelers:

Aaron Rodgers really hasn’t been all that great this year being 26th in passing yards per game, and 25th in QBR. If the Steelers didn’t take Rodgers they would have kept Russel Wilson or Justin Fields and I think that it would have been almost the same result for the Steelers. Without Aaron Rodger’s the Steelers have been more consistent with Aaron Rodger’s being 12th in Completion Percentage above guys like Mahomes, Mayfield, and Herbert. I don’t feel the Rodgers signing was that effective but it was better than bad.

Grade: C

#7: Geno Smith traded to the Raiders

The Raiders have looked a lot better than recent years despite being 1-4. Geno is 11th in passing yards but it seems like Bowers has been less involved in the games he’s played. He is the 15th ranked tight end this year, but he is the 3rd best Tight end in receiving yards per game, but he is below Jacobi Meyers in receiving yards per game. If the Raiders never got Geno Smith they probably would have drafted Jaxson Dart or Sheduer Sanders. In my opinion this wouldn’t have changed that much and the Raiders would still be 1-4. This year the Raiders average the 2nd least points per game and I put that on Geno Smith. This year Geno has wasted 9 drives by throwing the ball to the other team. If you do the math and take away the interceptions, and change those drives into touchdown drives they would be 3-2. Obviously they wouldn’t score on any of those drives but I am just saying

Grade: D+

#6: George Pickens traded to Cowboys

George Pickens has saved the Cowboys after the Ceedee Lamb injury and in his last 2 performances he has had 10 catches, 191 yards, and 3 TDs. This year overall he is 13th in receiving yards and 2nd in receiving TDs. Dak Prescott has benefited from this trade because he is 2nd in passing yards, 3rd in TDs, and 3rd in QBR. If the Cowboys never got George Pickens in the trade they currently would only have Kavonte Turpin and Jake Ferguson which isn’t the worst but Dak Prescott’s stats would be way worse and the Cowboys would not have tied the packers and maybe they wouldn’t have beat the Jets. Pickens had been a monster after the catch averaging 15.5 yards after catch and that is 10th in the leauge. I think this trade was great for the Cowboys and George Pickens

Grade: A+

#5: Sam Darnold signed by Seahawks

Sam Darnold may be the main reason for the Seahawks success and Jaxson Smith Njigbas breakout season. So far Sam Darnold is 7th in passing yards and passing touchdowns, and he has an amazing QBR of 78.9 which is 2nd in the league. This year Sam Darnold has helped Jaxson Smith Njigba become a top 10 receiver and he has helped by giving him the second most target share in the league. Other receivers have benefited from Sam Darnold including AJ Barner and Tory Horton who have played great this year. Without Sam Darnold the Seahawks would still have Geno Smith which both QBs are somewhat similar but Sam Darnold loves his deep passes which have effected Jaxson Smith Njigba to have his great year, with Jaxson averaging 15 yards per catch which is 9th in the leauge. For Sam Darnold going to Seattle was a big help because he isnt really good under pressure and the Seahawks have allowed the 3rd least sacks per game. This signing really helped the Seahawks and Sam Darnold himself.

Grade: A

4th: Justin Fields signed by Jets

A lot of people liked this move coming into the season and people thought it would be great for Justin Fields but the Jets are 0-5 and Justin Fields is 31st in the league in passing yards. The Jets offense has been one of the worst but Garret Wilson is having himself a season. He is 7th in the league in receiving yards, 6th in receptions and Justin Fields throws to him a lot being 3rd in target share. Mason Taylor has also played great this year being the 15th best tight end in receiving yards and he is top 10 in tight end receptions. If the Jets didn’t have Justin Fields what would they have? Kirk Cousins? Russel Wilson? Who knows how bad it could have been. Even though the Jets are 0-5 it could have been worse, the Jets are top 20 in points per game. Justin Fields is the opposite of Geno Smith having 0 interceptions this year and they have faced the defense that is top 5 in interceptions per game the Steelers. Justin Fields and the Jets really haven’t been as bad as an 0-5 team.

Grade: C

#3rd: Steffon Diggs signed by Patriots

Steffon Diggs has been great as a patriot being 12th in receiving yards and 10th in receptions and clearly he has made a big impact on Drake Maye. Everybody realized after the Bills game that Drake Maye was going to be a star and a big part of that was Steffon Diggs. Diggs had 10 catches for 140+ yards and he has been a big target for Drake Maye. If the Patriots never signed him then they most likely would have stuck with their receiving core, so this was a big signing for them. Besides Diggs there 2nd best pass catcher is Hunter Henry who hasn’t caught the ball a lot being 65th in league in receptions. The Patriots really needed Diggs. Diggs hasn’t caught a touchdown this year and if the Patriots want to score more they need to throw T Diggs. Diggs only has 3 redzone targets so Drake Maye needs to look for him more. This was a great trade for Drake Maye and a great trade for Diggs.

Grade: B+

2nd: Davante Adams signed by Rams

It is insane how the Rams have the #1 WR in the league in almost all stats and Davante is still 13th in receiving yards and 12th in receiving touchdowns. Matthew Stafford is 1st in passing yards and 2nd in passing touchdowns, and most of that goes to Puka but if Davante never joined the team he wouldn’t have a second option. The Davante move was so good for the Rams offense but was it good for himself? Davante didn’t want to be on the Raiders because he wasn’t getting the ball and now with the Rams Puka Nacua is 1st in target share. Even with that Davante is still top 20 in target share and he is above WR1s like Nico Collins, and Tyreek Hill. The Rams and Adams have made this signing one to remember.

Grade: A-

1st: Micah Parsons to Packers

Micah really hasn’t stood out yet being 27th in sacks and only 4 tackles but the Packers defense as a team is great allowing the 2nd least rushing yards per game, and the Packers are 12th in pass rush win rate and 8th in run stop win rate. Now that offensive lines are more focused on stopping Micah, Rashan Gary has really stepped up, averaging a sack and a TFL per game. Even though Micah doesn’t have the stats he is still 9th in the league in pass rush win rate and this trade has really been great for the Packers run defense and sacks , but the rest of the defense has to step up, if they want to win.
