World Teachers’ Day
I would like to acknowledge all Teachers and school staff on this World Teachers’ Day! The teaching calling is truly the best job in the world! We don’t just teach academic pursuits but also care for the emotional, financial and wellbeing concerns of the students in our schools. At times, it is a thankless profession; however, at Randwick Boys’ High School, we are blessed with an amazing staff, brilliant students and a very supportive parent/family community. From my point of view, our dedicated, hardworking, passionate, committed, caring and professional staff work extremely hard for our students on a daily basis. They are wonderful and deserve all the praise they receive. They make me look good every day! The single best thing about our school is the people in it! Today, I commend our teaching and non-teaching staff and thank them for their outstanding contributions to the lives of our young men.
Our P & C have once again asked our parent/family community for messages concerning our staff on World Teachers' Day. I look forward to reading these as they were a true highlight during 2022.

Year 7 students visit local Primary Schools – Transition Visits
Next week, our annual Transition Meetings will take place. Ms Betros, Transition Advisor and Ms Dam, Year 7 Year Advisor, will accompany some of our Year 7 students to visit local Primary Schools and talk all things Randwick Boys’ High School. It helps for a smooth transition of the Year 6 students and they hear all the wonderful things about our school from their ex Primary School friends. Thanks to Ms Betros and Ms Dam and all students involved!
Parents and Citizens
Our hard working and supportive P & C have organised another Working Bee at the school for tomorrow, Saturday 28th October around our hall. The gardens will be spruced up, weeds removed, fresh mulch laid and general pandering of the area. Details are available in the P & C section of our newsletter.
Yearly Examinations
Year 8 begin their yearly examinations next week. We wish all Year 8 students well in their academic endeavours and these examinations.
Robert Swan, a British explorer and environmental leader known for being the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles once said:
“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
In a world marked by growing climate-related tensions linked to global warming, one of the most vital steps we can take is to recognise and address its significance and impact; not just in our world, but in our individual spaces.
Last Thursday, I, accompanied by seven fellow students from the SRC, participated in an Environmental Leadership and Sustainability workshop at Taronga Zoo. This event marked the dynamic first phase of a two-part program that featured influential keynote speakers known for their climate change activism in Sydney and on the global stage.
Our students had the opportunity to collaborate with student councils and environmental teams from 17 other high schools in Sydney, where we shared presentations about our current school initiatives, such as Clean Up Australia Day, and outlined our future plans to expand and scrutinise our recycling and composting systems.
One of my goals as school captain is to try to ensure that environmental sustainability, given its pervasiveness in our world, is embedded in our thinking and as a result, we have better and more appropriate outcomes for our school and the broader community. I was really pleased to be a part of this event and to represent our dedicated and professional student body, and I extend my gratitude to them for their commitment to our presentation.
Additionally, as part of the program, they will be participating in the second phase, during which they will organise workshops for a large number of primary school students. These workshops aim to enhance their understanding of leadership and environmental education.
The future is looking bright and green for Randwick Boys’ High, and I am once more eagerly excited to see what the passion of our student representatives can and will achieve for our school!
Year 12 Biology
The Year 11 Biology students have begun their studies of the HSC course with Module 1: Heredity. In their studies of reproduction, students conducted a simple flower dissection, demonstrating some excellent microscopy skills.
In the latest round of the grade sport competition, Randwick Boys’ High School squared off against North Sydney Boys’ High School, bringing fierce competition to the field.
Our junior league tag teams emerged as the stars of the day, securing victory in both grades. Their exceptional teamwork, skills, and determination paid off, and they made us proud with their performances.
As we move forward, the next challenge awaits, as Randwick faces Ashfield Boys’ away in the upcoming round of the competition. We are excited to see our teams give it their all once again, representing Randwick Boys’ High School with pride and sportsmanship.

Happy World Teachers’ Day! - last call for thank you messages
Happy World Teachers’ Day to all our teachers! Parents and carers, it’s your last chance to add your message to say thank you to our fabulous teachers and let them know how they've made a difference to you or your RBHS student. The P&C will be making a donation to the end-of-year teacher’s function. If you would like to add a contribution, donations of $1 or more are very welcome.
School Absence Notification System
Regular attendance at school is essential to assist students to maximise their potential. At Randwick Boys' High School, we must ensure our school has effective measures in place to monitor and follow up students absences. We are required under Section 22 of the Education Act (1990) to undertake all reasonable measures to contact parents promptly and within two school days of absence. We have implemented additional measures to ensure we are upholding the NSW Department of Education standards here at Randwick Boys' High School. Our school absence notification system consists of a text message, follow up email and Sentral notification in the parent portal, to minimise unexplained absences. An absence is unexplained if parents have failed to provide an explanation to the school within 7 days. Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
