SHAVON EARP: The Team's Inspiration By Destiny Brewer

Shavon Earp is an associate head coach for N.C. A&T’s women's basketball team since 2016. From being involved with basketball since a young age, Earp's biggest accomplishments were developing Taysha Paye, an All-CAA player, leading the team to three Mid-Eastern Athletic Championship tournament titles and four MEAC regular-season championships.

Shavon Earp said, "Getting these young ladies outside of their comfort zone will help enrich the team."

Earp had a huge impact on the team's transition from the MEAC to the Big South in 2020. In 2022, she assisted the team in moving to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Earp said, "The focus on leadership qualities for the team will help develop them."

She was a star at Hampton High when she was awarded an All-American Honorable Mention and the 2001-02 Gatorade Player of the Year in Virginia. She also led the Crabbers to the 2000-01 state championship. Ending her high school career by being named the first-team all-state twice in Virginia.

She then attended the University of Pittsburgh where she was able to compete in 28 games and gained a spot on the Big East’s All-Academic team before transferring to Radford University.

Earp ended her undergraduate career with 834 points, 267 rebounds, and 108 assists during 81 games. During her time at N.C. A&T works with the wings and guards. Developing their skills by administering unique workout sessions.

After graduating she returned to Radford University as the graduate assistant for their women’s basketball program. Earp also went back to Hampton High School to be the assistant girls' basketball coach.

While also being a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, Earp was able to be the assistant coach at William & Mary for two seasons. She worked with guard and perimeter players which resulted in the All-CAA player, Taysha Pye.

Serving as the assistant coach for Heralded Boo Williams 16-and-under Elite AAU Team. This all led her to the position of Assistant Coach for North Carolina A&T’s women's basketball team in 2012. On April 12, 2016, the head coach Tarrell Robinson promoted her to the Associate Head Coach.

Earp received her bachelor’s degree in communication at Radford University and her master's in corporate and professional communication.

She was born and raised in Hampton, VA. This is the home of America’s first free public education.

Summation

Becoming the Associate Head Coach of N.C. A&T’s women’s basketball team must’ve been a huge accomplishment for Sharon Earp, especially with everything she achieved. The journey for her success is not over. Earp will continue to reach for the stars with all of her star athletes.
