Growing Your Own Talent

Genesee ISD has taken an active approach to the recruitment of certified teachers with the development of several "Grow Your Own" programs supported by several grants through the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

Genesee ISD first developed an opportunity for para-educators who have a bachelor’s degree to pursue a teaching certificate and a special education endorsement through a MDE approved alternative pathway program.

In this program, para educators work toward an initial teaching certificate and a special education endorsement for cognitive impairment or autism spectrum disorder simultaneously.
