MLK Day Volunteering

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 15th, both Midland High students and Dow High students participated in a heart-warming volunteering event in partnership with the United Way and Senior Services, crafting Valentine cards for 800 households on the Meals on Wheels program. This was MPS’ first cross-building, organized community service, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy that “love” is the answer and the illuminator. It was also a precious opportunity for our high schoolers to learn the bigger picture of philanthropy, community needs, and how we can give back to our society in every way, big or small. The creativity, enthusiasm, and kindness the students showcased in this project was inspiring. Thank you to the United Way of Midland County for their collaboration on this volunteer project. Way to go, Dow High and Midland High!

Midland High/Adams Elementary Nonfiction Publishing Party

On January 11th Ms. Bank’s 1st and 5th-hour Midland High English classes ventured to Ms. Grillo and Ms. Kirby’s first-grade classes at Adams Elementary to work on writing skills. Students shared laughs, snacks, and mentorship! The high school students helped the first-grade students edit/revise and publish their nonfiction books as a celebration of their Lucy Calkins Nonfiction Writing Unit. This was the first time first-grade students were able to type their writing on Chromebooks. This was a great opportunity for all!
