Nukumea Newsletter Term 1, Week 6

Kia ora koutou. I'm currently in Texas, at a very large education conference, attending workshops on community, wellbeing, creativity and innovation. I look forward to seeing everyone at school when I'm back to share my learnings (and maybe the odd picture of my amazing food I am enjoying here) and know that Mr Cowie and Mrs Burnett have the school running smoothly in my absence.

Easter Tuesday

The terms and holidays are usually set so that Easter occurs during the first term break and the Easter Tuesday school holiday goes unnoticed. However, in some years Easter falls much earlier than usual such as 2016, 2021 and this year 2024.

Although the Tuesday after Easter Monday is not a public holiday, it is a school holiday when schools are not allowed to open, making Easter a five-day break from school. This is a hangover from when the school year was three terms and this provided a mid-term break for families. Please ensure you are organised for your children to be home on Tuesday April 2nd, so you are not caught by surprise.

Banana Bread - by Aadhya (Year 3)

Last week we made banana bread in the kids kitchen because we are learning about food around the world. First we got ready with all the utensils. Next we watched a video how to make it. Then we got the ingredients ready. After that we made it and put it in a black tray and baked it. Last of all we got to eat it! It was really yummy.

Bike and Scooter Racks

We are really excited to finally have our bike and scooter racks in place. It is awesome seeing so many of our students riding these to school and now we have the storage in place to store them securely.

Travel Survey

Now that we are settled into this year in our new location, we would love some info from you about how your children are travelling to school. This will help us to plan some events and initiatives to make this travel safe for everyone. Please fill out the survey on this link.

Swimming

Thanks to everyone for completing the swimming forms. The team at Northern Arena are now creating the groups for our swimming lessons starting next Monday.

From Monday 11th March to Thursday 21st March, please ensure your child arrives at school wearing their swimming togs under their uniform. They will also need caps, goggles and towel in their bag.

We are in very good hands with the swimming teachers at Northern Arena. They are top quality coaches and will ensure the swimming experience is amazing for all of our kids.

Come join us as we work with Oke Gardens to build new vegetable gardens for the school.

While Nukumea Primary School is a state funded school, voluntary school donations from our whānau community allow us to provide a wider range of opportunities for our students.

Your contribution will support many additional learning resources, digital technologies including iPads and Chromebooks, learning support as well as sports and play equipment. The donation amount for the 2024 school year has been set at $180 per student.

All donations are tax deductible: To receive a tax credit on your donation this year, payment needs to be made by the end of the financial year (Sunday 31 March 2024). Once payment has been made via KINDO you will receive a receipt that you can claim through the IRD website.

I hope you are all having a great week and I look forward to seeing you when I'm back onsite next Monday.
