Roberta’s Society

A NEW KIND OF SOCIAL HUB AND Universe to Discover in Aarhus

A design-led gathering place where communal energy, culture, and connection converge.

MARCH 23, 2026 . . . Aarhus, DenmarkKolpin Hotels has now expanded its vision with the launch of Roberta’s Society in Aarhus — a new high-end, yet accessible hybrid hotel concept that blends curated style with social energy, bringing the Kolpin ethos to a new generation of travelers. Roberta's Society is as a new kind of social hub — and an entirely new universe to discover, dream in, and return to. Located in Aarhus’ iconic former main library, Roberta’s Society brings together private quarters, shared hideaways, the lively Cantina, community-driven events, and a vibrant bar under one roof. It’s not simply somewhere to sleep — it’s somewhere to belong.

“The fact that this beautiful piece of 1930s brutalist architecture originally served as a hub for citizens seeking knowledge, education and inspiration is deeply embedded in the building’s DNA. That legacy is something we wanted to stay true to, as it aligns closely with the ethos of our hotel group,” says Alexander Kolpin, Creative Director of Kolpin Hotels.

Designed as a modern house in which to socialize, the space blends Scandinavian design with an open, welcoming atmosphere. Guests can retreat to thoughtfully designed private rooms, DreamBoxes (designed by Alexander Kolpin), dormitories, or plug into a dynamic social core built around connection and culture.

Roberta’s Society is more than a place to gather — it’s a living universe.

Each space feels like its own orbit: the cantina buzzing around long communal tables, the stage alive with music and conversation, quiet corners made for reflection, and the bar pulling everyone into the same gravitational field. Whether visiting for an evening, a weekend, or longer, guests are invited to explore, connect, and discover something new each time.

Design anchors the experience — warm, intentional, Scandinavian in spirit — yet it is the people who give the house its pulse. Locals and travelers move through the same spaces. Creativity and culture are not programmed around the edges; they live at the center.

“In reinterpreting the building and shaping Roberta’s Society, I found it essential to dive into the era of the original structure and work with the aesthetics already present. Respecting the limited budget, It required being creative and making the common areas warm, fun and informal. Lighting plays a key role, of course, but there’s also a touch of theatre and boldness throughout. I am very proud of what we managed to offer at very low prices without compromising our core and passion,” says Alexander.

The impressive lobby bar serves as reception and at the heart of the house is the vibrant Cantina — a playful kitchen and dining space is centered around shared meals and spontaneous encounters.

The food at Cantina is healthy, colorful everyday fare with a touch of flair, served from breakfast through lingering evening dinners. Seasonal plates are made for sharing, menus shift with the mood, and the bar pours wine from the Kolpin Family Wines Collection, its own beer, Berties Brew, alongside others. Casual and generous, dinners are served family-style — the right kind of messy. Come for the food, stay for the feeling.

Beyond its rooms and dining spaces, Roberta’s Society features a stage for intimate concerts and talks, a lobby bar that acts as the living room, and a rotating cultural program designed to bring people together across ages and backgrounds. Whether it's jazz nights, Friday beats to kick off weekend good vibes, open mic nights, or intimate concerts, you’ll find kindred spirits to enjoy the night.

"Using leopard print carpets may go against the grain, but that occasional unpredictability is exactly what makes the house playful and surprising. I love that we transformed the old locker room into Roberta’s Stage, as music, art, talks and entertainment are all elements we want to add to this very affordable kind of accommodation and community," says Alexander.

Roberta’s Society is built around togetherness and curiosity,” says Karim Nielsen, CEO of Kolpin Hotels, and co-owner of Roberta's Society. “We wanted to create a place that feels like its own universe — layered, social, and constantly evolving. A space where locals and travelers feel equally at home, and where there is always something new to discover. You can arrive alone and leave as part of something larger.”

"Roberta’s Society reimagines what it means to stay somewhere. It is a homebase for creatives, curious travelers, neighbors, and friends — a social hub that expands beyond four walls and invites you into its orbit."
