Principally Speaking
Yesterday we met with all students to review our STARS expectations (Stay Focused- Take Responsibility- Act Safely- Respect All- Self-Control). We talked about the importance of following school rules, including Away for the Day (phones/devices put away during school hours), not bringing toys from home, and dressing according to the school dress code. We also shared the exciting Missions and prizes students can earn through good behavior, strong attendance, and shining bright with the STARS! We also talked about achieving big goals with hard work and following the STARS! Ask your child what part they are most excited about—was it the Missions, or showing how they can shine with the STARS?! ⚽✨ Ayer nos reunimos con todos los estudiantes para repasar las expectativas de STARS (Manténgase enfocado, Toma responsabilidad, Actúe con seguridad, Respete a todos, Tener autocontrol). Hablamos sobre la importancia de seguir las reglas escolares, incluyendo "Away for the Day" (guardar los teléfonos y dispositivos durante el horario escolar), no traer juguetes de casa y vestirse de acuerdo con el código de vestimenta escolar. Dual Language Immersion
One area of opportunity expressed in last year’s parent survey was the need for clearer information and consistency about our Dual Language program. I’d like to direct you to this parent website, which includes valuable information and resources. On the top right-hand side, you’ll find a Language Acquisition tab and a Support at Home tab—I think you’ll find both very helpful.
Our Dual Language Immersion program is comprehensive and research-based, designed to provide students with a unique educational experience. It promotes biliteracy, bilingualism, and cultural competency with the goal of helping students listen, speak, read, and write proficiently in two languages while developing an appreciation for diverse cultures. Nuestro programa de Inmersión Bilingüe es comprehensiva y diseñado para brindar a los estudiantes una experiencia educativa única. Promueve la lectoescritura bilingüe, el bilingüismo y la competencia cultural con el objetivo de ayudar a los estudiantes a escuchar, hablar, leer y escribir con fluidez en dos idiomas, a la vez que desarrollan un aprecio por las diversas culturas.
The following resources outline what each student can do within the four language domains at their current level, what is expected at the next level, and how we can assist them in leveling up. We’ll also have music, lawn games, and a chance to connect with other Jones families and the PTA. Pops in the Park has good vibes for everyone, and is a great way to ease into the school year. The Power of Partnership: Connecting with Your Child’s Teacher
The beginning of a new school year brings new teachers, new classmates, new opportunities and new relationships.
While the relationships your child forms with peers are important, you may be surprised that the most significant relationship, in terms of your child’s school success and development, is the one you form with his or her teacher.
Your relationship with your child’s teacher can be an important factor in how well he or she gets along at school and at home. For many children, the most significant adults in their lives on a day-to-day basis are immediate family members and caregivers (primarily parents), and their teacher. These are the adults with whom they spend the most time, who make most of the decisions regarding how they spend their time and who provide guidance and direction, through their actions and their words, on most aspects of their lives.
Positive connections between parents and teachers have been shown to improve children’s academic achievement, social competencies and emotional well-being. When parents and teachers work as partners, children do better in school and at home.
The beginning of the school year is the perfect time to reach out to your child’s teacher and begin establishing a positive, collaborative relationship that will have a remarkable impact on your child’s learning and development.
These evidence-based practices will go a long way in helping you work together to ensure your child has the support he or she needs to be successful at school, at home and in the future.
Morning Arrival. Doors Open at 7:30 a.m.
- Instruction begins in class at 8:10 a.m. Students are considered tardy after 8:20 a.m. Students arriving late to school must be accompanied by an adult to the office to receive his or her tardy pass. This will require you to park your car in the parking lot and accompany your child to the front office. Please do all you can to get your children to school on time so that we can maximize every minute of the learning day. Being punctual is an important lifelong skill for students.
- La instrucción comienza en clase a las 8:10 a. m. Se considera que los estudiantes llegan tarde después de las 8:20 a. m. Los estudiantes que llegan tarde a la escuela deben estar acompañados por un adulto a la oficina para recibir su pase de tardanza. Transportation & School Supplies
Please review the list of school supplies your child will need to bring for the start of school. Arlington ISD provides transportation to and from Jones through a hub system of various locations. The students should be at their hubs before 7:00 a.m. for pick-up. The afternoon drop-off times vary upon location, traffic, etc. They usually drop off between 3:50-4:30. Please take a moment to apply for transportation if interested.

Meal Information
Meal Benefit Applications for the 2025-2026 school year is open now. Families are required to submit free and reduced-price meal applications every year to receive meal benefits.

Student Dismissal 3:35 p.m.
- School dismisses at 3:35 p.m. Dismissal can be a hectic and stressful time for parents. In order to ensure the safety of all, we ask for the parents to stay in their car, follow instructions, and remain calm. The first couple of weeks of school tend to be the most challenging while everyone gets adjusted.
- Please avoid coming in from Lamar Blvd. Grades 2-5 & siblings/carpool are asked to come down Franklin Drive to Van Buren. K-1 are asked to line up on Van Buren from Lincoln Dr. No one is allowed to park in front of the school. Please also stay near the yellow line when on Van Buren. This will allow a lane on your right for passerbys. Please do not block homeowner driveways. When exiting the school, you should turn right on Van Buren.
- All students will dismiss directly from their classrooms. You will be required to make multiple stops if you have siblings or carpool. All families will be required to drive through the designated pick up line. You will not be allowed to park on the street and walk up to an exit door to retrieve your child. No walk ups.
- You will be given a car tag with a number associated with your child to help with our dismissal system. Please make sure this car tag is displayed during pick up times to help with our efficiency.
- Students who ride the school bus daycare van, walk or attend Boys & Girls Club are escorted by adults and will be dismissed first.
- La escuela termina a las 3:35 p.m. La salida puede ser un momento agitado y estresante para los padres. Para garantizar la seguridad de todos, les pedimos a los padres que permanezcan en su automóvil, sigan las instrucciones y mantengan la calma. Our All-Star students learn from our adult behaviors. Even when we think that they are not watching us, they are and paying close attention. Thanks to the All-Star parents that consistently follow the school traffic signs and procedures. You are teaching your children how to be model citizens.

Early Pick Up/Change of Transportation
In order to allow smoother traffic and for us to serve you better in the office, we are asking that if you want to pick up your child early from school please be in the office prior to 3:15 pm. The latest that you will be able to request a change of transportation for your child/children on the same day will be 3:15 p.m. Any calls or emails after 3:15 may be denied and the child will go home their usual way – bus, car, walking, Boys & Girls Club or daycare. You may submit your request via phone call, email, or Class Dojo message. If you have more than one child at Jones Academy that will need a change of transportation, we encourage you to contact the front office. The front office staff will take care of your request.

School Visits, Breakfast and Lunch
Visitors are welcomed. All visitors must present an ID before you have access to our school. For your child’s safety, no visitors are allowed in our building without a valid ID. Only parents, guardians or others listed on the student’s registration will have access to our students. Visitors are not allowed in the classrooms during the school day, unless the classroom teacher is aware, an appointment/agreement was made to the date and time of your visit or volunteer time period. We do not want to interrupt the teaching and learning that takes place in our school. We will have volunteer opportunities and will inform you of those opportunities and future volunteer orientation. All volunteers must participate in a mandatory campus volunteer orientation. We will inform you of those dates soon. Please visit website below to apply to become a volunteer.
We would like to take the first month of school to firmly establish breakfast and lunch routines and expectations with the students free of distractions or visitors. Breakfast and Lunch visitors will be welcomed September 8.
Los visitantes son bienvenidos. Todos los visitantes deben presentar una identificación antes de tener acceso a nuestra escuela. Para la seguridad de su hijo, no se permiten visitantes en nuestro edificio sin una identificación válida. Solo los padres, tutores u otras personas que figuran en el registro del estudiante tendrán acceso a nuestros estudiantes. Birthday Celebrations
Birthday celebrations should not interfere with the instructional day and classroom learning. We ask that Birthday celebrations for your child occur after 3:10 p.m. (5th grade can be at 1:30 before their specials classes). The brief celebration must be pre-approved and scheduled with the classroom teacher. The teacher has the authority to not approve birthday celebrations on particular days if it conflicts with instructional plans or state and district testing. Parents are limited to bringing only store-bought cupcakes or cookies. Sodas, carbonated beverages, red drinks or other drinks that will stain the classroom carpet are NOT allowed. Thanks for your understanding.
Las celebraciones de cumpleaños no deben interferir con el día de instrucción ni con el aprendizaje del salón de clase. Las celebraciones de cumpleaños de sus hijos solamente podrán llevarse a cabo después de las 3:10 p.m. (5to grado puede estar a la 1:30 antes de sus clases especiales). La celebración breve debe ser pre-aprobada y programada con la maestra del salón de clase. En caso de conflicto con los planes de instrucción o exámenes del estado, la maestra tiene la autoridad de no aprobar celebraciones de cumpleaños en ciertos días. Los padres están limitados a traer solamente galletas o pastelitos (cupcakes) comprados en la tienda. Health Screenings Coming in September
The State of Texas requires that school children receive certain health screenings at school. Students who are new to the district, as well as those in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades, will participate in these screenings with our school nurse. If you have any questions about the screenings, please contact our school nurse directly, Mrs. Juarez at sjuarez1@aisd.net. She plans to begin the screenings on September 2.
El Estado de Texas requiere que los estudiantes reciban ciertas evaluaciones de salud en la escuela. Los estudiantes nuevos en el distrito, así como aquellos en Kinder, 1.º, 3.º y 5.º grado, participarán en estas evaluaciones con nuestra enfermera escolar. Volunteer Sign Up
Many hands make light work and we love our volunteers. We depend on our parents and volunteers to help make the best learning environment that we can for our kids. We encourage you to be an approved volunteer to help make a difference at school, sponsor fine arts events, chaperone field trips and work with students. All volunteers must submit an online application (every year) and upload a copy of your unexpired government-issued photo ID to the volunteer application.
Muchas manos facilitan el trabajo y amamos a nuestros voluntarios. Dependemos de nuestros padres y voluntarios para ayudar a crear el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje posible para nuestros hijos. Lo alentamos a ser un voluntario aprobado para ayudar a hacer la diferencia en la escuela, patrocinar eventos de bellas artes, ser acompañante en excursiones y trabajar con los estudiantes.
