Planning Commission - Updates from their 9/26 Meeting
On September 26, the Planning Commission discussed various alternatives and incentives for inclusionary housing projects and gave direction to staff to bring back more information on the following topics at a future workshop:
- Review success stories from other cities for various incentives for inclusionary housing projects
- Explore fee waiver programs in other cities
- Consider draft policy language to allow alternatives to on-site construction of affordable units for for-sale inclusionary housing projects
The Commission is tentatively scheduled to consider these topics at a workshop on Thursday, November 14 at 7:30 PM. Check out the Draft Ordinances webpage for more information and updates!
The History Room in the Brisbane Library Has a New Look!
Earlier this week, staff added a couple of items to further enhance the History Room becoming more of an exhibit space – such as a monitor that runs through a slideshow of images (courtesy of San Bruno Mountain Watch and their Archives of David Schooley), and a touch-screen kiosk computer which guides users through various digital collections, media, and articles. We invite you to visit the Library’s History Room to take a look! We plan to have a more formal reception for this new space in the future so we can thank everyone who’s been involved in the reimaging of this room, especially those who have carefully retained historical artifacts for future generations to enjoy…stay tuned!
Loneliness to Light Gathering at County Center
The Loneliness to Light Gathering at County Center yesterday, October 1st was a time to reflect and encourage one another in our work to combat the loneliness epidemic. Thank you to Supervisor Canepa for guiding this initiative and our partners at the Center for Age-Friendly Excellence and Peninsula Family Services for expanding our reach to the residents we serve. Our own Parks and Recreation Supervisor, Nicole Houghton, shared about the programs the department offers to older adults, which were well-received by other agencies as they’re simple and easy to implement.

Updated Flu & COVID-19 Vaccines 2024 Now Available
Updated flu and COVID-19 vaccines for the 2024 Fall season are now available, along with RSV vaccines. Walk-ins are being accepted, but pharmacies are recommending you to make an appointment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), patients ages six months and older should receive the updated flu and COVID-19 vaccines, ideally in September or October, to restore and enhance protection against the most prevalent virus variants currently circulating. Getting a flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time is recommended if patients are eligible and the timing for each vaccine is right. Schedule your vaccination appointment with CVS, Safeway, Walgreens, and many other pharmacies, as well as local hospitals and clinics such as Kaiser and Sutter Health.
COVID-19 vaccines continue to be the best defense against severe illness and death. The U.S. FDA approved the latest version of the COVID-19 vaccine on August 22, 2024. Visit vaccines.gov for more information about how you can protect against respiratory illnesses such as the flu, RSV, and COVID-19.
You are able to place another order of 4 free at-home COVID-19 rapid tests. Shipping began on September 30th and will be delivered by USPS. Limit of 1 order per residential address. Each order contains 4 individual tests shipped in 1 package. Orders for free at-home COVID-19 rapid tests on COVIDTests.gov.

Did You Know?
Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) is an evolving strategy that alters the fundamental and traditional ways in which the police fight crime and respond to other problems in the community. It means having officers in neighborhoods working cooperatively with people to address the problems that have a disruptive influence on the quality of life in the city. An important component of COPPS is the use of Problem Oriented Policing Projects (POP Projects).
In July, POP File #24-03 was opened, with the traffic data recording device, JAMAR LE II, deployed to two locations along Mission Blue Drive on the Ridge. During the two-month enforcement period, 61 citations were issued, and 15 warning citations were issued. Officers will continue to monitor the area. See additional information and past POP Projects.
