I hope that the brighter weather has been enjoyed by all despite the colder mornings. As always, we have plenty to report in school this week! (Not a surprise!)

I must start with some sad news for Birkwood. Miss Horsfield will be leaving us after working with us for over 3 years. She has worked with some of our most vulnerable children and has been magnificent! We will miss her but wish her well in her new venture where she will work with her family’s successful raft of businesses. She has been an inspirational colleague and is a huge loss to Birkwood and education in general.

In school, during Monday’s Assembly Mr. Davis and I announced our pupil leaders! Thank you to Mr. Davis for his assistance in ensuring that children have a significant voice across school. Their roles are crucial!

This week, we were visited by some Local Authority Officers who looked at our reading offer at Birkwood, including scrutinising lessons! They were enchanted by the children of course. I congratulate Mrs. Wilkie for her leadership of reading; we are very proud of our reading offer here and are aiming to get even better. The fact that we share and showcase our work with others is a huge compliment to Birkwood.

I wrote to families around parking – this week has been great and I thank those who strive to help us remain a safe place – especially at drop off and pick up times. Barnsley Council have worked with our new School Council to raise awareness of how we stay safe. Some exciting updates will follow!

I must thank everybody, especially Mrs. Birch who have delivered and then supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning. A wonderful charity who I know will have touched so many of us. Supporting such great causes has so many positive messages. So thank you! A fantastic example of our community coming together and showing love and kindness in a special and tasty way! It is possible to address and support something so significant in a fun and engaging way. A special morning.

Another thank you from me goes to our Governing Body – we met this week and the commitment they show to helping Birkwood to improve is amazing. I am sure that this year will bring lots more special memories – the support of our Governing Body helps to make these things possible and I for one do not forget this. Superb servants to our school.

I politely remind all families not to film or photograph on school premises. This policy helps protect pupils who do not have consent to be photographed, safeguarding those whose circumstances are particularly sensitive. The right to privacy must be respected, and everyone involved with Birkwood shares the responsibility of upholding this commitment. Your understanding and cooperation ensure a secure and inclusive environment for all children. Thank you for your support in this vital matter.

Year 5 and 6 will attend the Handball tournament this afternoon – I wish them well I know that Mr. Walton has been very pleased with the build up! The best bit is that we shall be hosting the event!

Staying with sport, I wanted to remind you of the information from Barnsley Tennis Club. There are links below to have a look at what they can offer. Tennis is a great sport and this really is a fantastic local facility – give it a go!

A ‘heads up’ – DISCO tickets on sale from next week! Tuesday 21st October 4:30-6pm. Tickets £3 each and fancy dress is welcome.

Our after-school partner ‘Groots’ have plans for half term, please check the link if you may be interested.

As ever, I wish you all a lovely weekend. I am still recovering from the fact that the cricket season is over! Enjoy some family time and thank you so much for your support and everything that you do for our lovely children.
