Principal's Message

Conrad Schools of Science Teacher of the Year: Mandy Gillin

Mandy has been an integral part of the Conrad community since 2012, contributing significantly not only as a teacher but also as an active and engaged member of our school. Her professional achievements as a world language teacher are commendable and include serving as the World Language Department Chair, a member of the World Language Curriculum Council, and a Clinical Educator for the UD Student Teacher Program. Mandy is also a valued member of our Building Leadership Team, the Present State of De World Language Teacher Leader Network, and the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Beyond her teaching responsibilities, Mandy has made a lasting impact through her involvement in various school initiatives. She has not only coached multiple athletic teams, but has also chaired our school’s Suicide Prevention Team, leading to the establishment of our Mental Health Awareness Week and the HOPE Squad. She currently manages the Students in Action/ Multiplying Good- Community Service Club, which was recognized as Silver club members for their outstanding community contributions, including annual food drives, hygiene kit preparation for people experiencing homelessness, and our upcoming Kindness Week starting March 25th. As our yearbook advisor and communications director, Mandy plays a crucial role in keeping our school community connected and informed about all things Conrad. Her dedication extends beyond instructional excellence to fostering a positive school culture and community spirit.

Mandy's commitment, passion, and dedication makes her an invaluable asset to our team. We are incredibly proud to have her as a part of our school community. Congratulations Mandy, on this well-deserved honor!

PTO just finished a Penny Wars Fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who donated. We heard students were raiding piggy banks, change in cars & sofa cushions, & even money found in laundry! The funds will go towards everything that the PTO does for the school, staff, & your students. It definitely sparked a little competition between the grades too!

A HUGE thank YOU!!! We were able to raise $911.89. The 6th grade dominated the entire time & was the clear winning class for MS & 9th grade won in HS! These 2 grades will win a FREE Dress Down Day (Date TBD).

If you didn’t get to send a donation in before it ended, please consider still sending in a donation (cash, check (payable to CSS PTO), or through CashApp - $ConradPTO or Venmo - @ConradPTO…please note that it is a donation). Any amount REALLY helps. We fund many, many things, but to name a few….teacher appreciation meals, events at school, scholarships, grants for student groups & school needs, senior gifts, etc.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our bowling event 🎳! Everyone had a great time!!

The next planning meeting for the 8th Grade Formal is scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 7PM at Panera Bread (Kirkwood Hwy.). Please join us! (You do not need to have an 8th grader to help organize.)

School Happenings

School Happenings

Biotech Fair Monday, March 25th- All are welcome!

Please join us for our 13th Annual Biotechnology Fair in the Conrad Schools of Science cafeteria on Monday, March 25th from 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. All are welcome.

We are encouraging the community, parents, local scientists, and business professionals to support our students by viewing and interacting with them regarding their research projects. The students greatly appreciate your interest, attendance, and any input you would like to provide. This is a great opportunity to foster the communication between our schools and the communities we serve. One of our goals is for our school to be a pipeline into the scientific community that solves global problems and finds cures for society.

The Biotechnology Fair is presented by our Biotechnology II, III and IV students. The Biotech-2's have created tri fold posters and portfolios and will be presenting topics that represent the latest techniques scientists use today in the field of biotechnology. The Biotech-3’s and 4’s will be presenting the findings they collected from their own experiments. These students had the opportunity to design and plan every detail of their research. Some of the research they conducted included methods of creating biofuels from algae and food waste and methods to recognize the optimal time to extract energy from algae according to the light intensity produced when it glows. Other research projects have sought to solve a real world problem to benefit society such as finding cures or remedies. The Conrad Schools of Science Biotechnology Fair provides Biotechnology II, III and IV students with the opportunity to present their findings through research and experimentation to the scientific community.

EntreX students compete at UD

Seniors Sophia Freeman, Maggie Glynn, David Cooper, Kevin Sparks, Juan Romo-Diaz, and Eric Juarez-Sanchez, two of our UD EntreX teams, went to UD’s Clayton Hall to compete against other teams from Delaware and the surrounding states on Thursday, March 7th. There were 44 teams that pitched their ideas to a panel of judges in either the business or social venture that students created and have been working on since October of this school year. While we did not walk away with the top prize, our Conrad students did a fantastic job and represented themselves and the school extremely well.

They also are quizzed individually and in a team activity on milk production knowledge.
