A Message from WESD Superintendent Dr. Paul Stanton

Greetings WESD Families and Staff,

I hope you had an enjoyable Fall Break. For those that are new to the district, I am Dr. Paul Stanton, the proud superintendent of the Washington Elementary School District. I hope to see you out at the schools and at our second quarter events. Quarter two is filled with many concerts, choirs, sports and ASA programs.

In the next few months our Communications Department will be updating the WESD and school websites. We will be asking for your feedback to help us make these communication tools easier to find the information about our schools, services and who to contact. Thanks in advance for your help!

This e-news includes Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences, October SUPER Kids and Staff, our Fall volleyball champions, a reminder about our Family Satisfaction Survey and information about low-cost Internet access for all WESD families.

Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conference Reminder

Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences have begun and will continue through next week. Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences are a wonderful opportunity for parents/guardians to work together with the school staff on meeting the needs of each child. If you haven’t already, please be sure to schedule a time with your child’s/children’s teacher(s) to review their progress in the first quarter. Please remember – all schools will release early Oct. 24th – 27th. We wish to thank our many WESD partners for supporting our staff during Parent/Guardian/Teacher Conferences with their cards of encouragement, snacks and late night meals.

WESD Recognizes the October SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff

Congratulations to the October SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff! Yesterday, I had the privilege to surprise and recognize the deserving recipients from John Jacobs Elementary, Moon Mountain Elementary, Lookout Mountain Elementary and Mountain Sky Junior High. SUPER Kids received a certificate and a free pizza from Peter Piper Pizza while SUPER Staff earned a certificate and a $10 Amazon gift card courtesy of Veregy. This event is truly one of my favorite days of the month.

Established in 2006, the WESD SUPER Kids and SUPER Staff program has been celebrating select students and staff from each school for their achievements and contributions for over 15 years. As part of the celebration, I am honored to surprise these outstanding students and staff at their schools with their award and congratulate them.

Congratulations to the WESD Volleyball Champions

Girls Volleyball K-8 Champions: Arroyo School

Boys Volleyball 7-8 Champions: Desert Foothills Junior High

Girls Volleyball Eighth and Seventh Grade Champions: Mountain Sky Junior High

We are proud of all our students who participated in the volleyball season for displaying their skills and incredible sportsmanship! A special shout out to their coaches for their support and guidance!

You May Qualify for Free or Low-cost Internet

The City of Phoenix, in partnership with the Affordable Connectivity Program and Common Sense Media, want you to know that your family may qualify for free or low-cost Internet. The WESD participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which ensures that all WESD students receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. Because of this, your family may qualify for free or low-cost Internet – a $30/month discount on Internet service and a one-time $100 discount to purchase a laptop, desktop or tablet.

To participate go to getmyinternet.org . You’ll need a copy of the WESD CEP letter and your child’s/children’s report card(s). The CEP letter is available for download on the WESD website. For assistance, please call 1-877-384-2575.
