History

Bannack, Montana circa 1900. Looking West

The surrounding valleys and mountains were filled with miners and entrepreneurs looking to make their fortunes off the gold boom. Sheriff Henry Plummer and his gang wreaked havoc throughout the territory before the Vigilantes exacted their violent justice. Nearby ghost towns of Bannack, Virginia City, and many other smaller mining camps are rich in history, and many days can be spent exploring the area and learning about the daily lives and richness of those days past.

Refurbished Biltmore Hot Springs

Today the hot springs feature cold plunges as well as the notable hot springs.

Charles Ziegler developed the hot springs located on the ranch into a hotel with several cabins in the late 1800s. "Nine boiling springs with a consistent flow of medicinal waters from a deep subterranean channel," described the springs in the 1916 Dillon Tribune. Often enjoyed by locals throughout the area, the springs were a popular gathering spot for college students out of Dillon and local families alike.

Broker's Comments

The Talon Ranch is the bellwether of southwest Montana river properties with immediate Big Hole River frontage. It’s located in the “sweet spot” to access many of Montana’s other famous blue ribbon fishing streams. A beautifully remodeled home, sited right on the bank of the Big Hole River, allows one to hear the rush of the river year around. The adjacent fishing pond adds to the bucolic setting of the home and its surroundings. With mild Ruby Valley winters, the ranch allows the opportunity to utilize the riparian area and rolling hills to operate a winter cattle operation…letting the ranch rest and recover during the fishing and hunting seasons while enjoying those recreational pursuits. Talon… clearly the perfect blend of location, beauty, and function.
