Cincinnati Pops Conductor and Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra Music DirectorJohn Morris Russell opened our 2024 Festival with Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins featuring Wolf Trap Opera. Our partnership with Wolf Trap Opera continued to bring thrilling vocal music to The Clarice as part of the company's UNTRAPPED series.

Manuel López-Gómez Returns
Maestro Manuel López-Gómez, associate conductor of the Medellín Philharmonic Orchestra, led the NOI Philharmonic in Evencio Castellano's Santa Cruz de Pacairigua,Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 and Astor Piazzolla's The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires featuring Rochester Philharmonic Concertmaster Juliana Athayde.
Mei-Ann Chen at NOI+F
Mei-Ann Chen, music director of the Chicago Sinfonietta, made her NOI+F conducting debut with an evening of works rich with concept and complexity: Anna Clyne's Restless Oceans, Claude Debussy's La mer, Michael Abels' Outburst and Bela Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra. Maestra Chen also collaborated with NOI+F Music Director Marin Alsop in leading the NOI+F Conducting Academy.
Chamber Music 2.0
In partnership with the UMD Academy for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, NOI+F's Chamber Music 2.0 event was designed to experience chamber music in various intimate settings throughout The Clarice's Grand Pavilion. Each guest created their own unique musical encounter!
Alsop Conducts Mahler's "Titan"
During her residency, NOI+F Music Director Marin Alsop, in partnership with internationally acclaimed conductor Mei-Ann Chen, led the NOI+F Conducting Academy in a series of seminars and conducting workshops. Maestra Alsop also conducted the NOI Philharmonic in works by Gustav Mahler, Jennifer Higdon and Ludwig van Beethoven.
Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship
NOI+F is a proud partner with the Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship, which mentors, supports and promotes women conductors as they advance in their professional careers. The fellowship, created by NOI+F Music Director Marin Alsop with support from Tomio Taki, has provided intensive coaching, mentorship and financial support to aspiring female conductors.
Today, all 30 recipients are working to ensure a more equitable future for classical music through their artistry and advocacy; among them they hold 19 music director or chief conductor positions of orchestras around the world.
As part of NOI+F 2024, Taki Alsop Conducting Fellow Julia Cruz assisted various conductors, led bilingual performances of Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf and led the NOI Philharmonic in Gabriela Ortiz's Antrópolis.
Washington National Cathedral
"It's no small feat to sell out a performance at the Washington National Cathedral," wrote The Washington Post's Michael Brodeur. On June 30, NOI+F Music Director Marin Alsop led the NOI Philharmonic, Heritage Signature Chorale and four extraordinary soloists drawn from the University of Maryland School of Music community in a breathtaking performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The concert also featured Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon's contemplative blue cathedral.
National Gallery of Art Takeover
Members of the NOI Philharmonic took over various spaces throughout the National Gallery of Art, performing a breadth of works.
NOI Philharmonic at Ravinia Festival
This year, the NOI Philharmonic served as Ravinia Festival's Orchestra Partner in their 2024 National Seminario Ravinia. Through this partnership, NOI+F fellows mentored students representing El Sistema-inspired organizations from across North America.
The NOI Philharmonic's residency culminated in a side-by-side performance led by Taki Alsop recipient, NOI+F Conducting Fellow and Lead Seminario Conductor Jessica Altarriba. The NOI Philharmonic rounded out the performance with Gustav Mahler’s “Titan” led by Maestra Alsop.
