Victory is success or triumph over an enemy. A related word is conquest. Conquest means to take control. The victor takes control.

Another synonym for victory is the word Palm, as in the palm branches. The palms were given as a symbol of victory. This has been shown in the scripture. Overcome means to surmount a problem or enemy. It means to get to the top of, to defeat, to get the better of, and to win. We overcome problems in our life now. We overcome weaknesses and we win battles which is a way of overcoming. But the victory is far greater than overcoming.

The last word I want to share is Triumph. In the bible it is used mostly as an expression of victory. It means to jump for joy, to shout for joy, to sing and to rejoice. Today at the end of my short class we will demonstrate a Triumph, an expression of Victory.

We can overcome many things but it is not enough. We must win the war. We must have victory. How can we do that? We don’t have the power. Victory is not based on our personal strength. Christ is the Victory! What is the victory? The Victory is the defeat of sin and death. The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

But before he is destroyed we will be victorious, because Christ came down and died for us and he has the keys of hell and death.

Death is our greatest enemy. He is the destroyer that has relentlessly pursued us and has killed every one of us. There are only three people we know of that did not have to sleep the sleep of death.

From generation to generation we have all gone down into the grave, saints and sinners alike. He devoured our flesh and swallowed us up without mercy. We have been like sheep of the slaughter.

We have had to witness the death of loved ones. We have had to experience our own aging flesh, diseases and illnesses that incapacitate us, that cause us pain and worry. And we can do nothing about it.

Modern medicine may ease some of our symptoms but nothing and no one can stop death. You can’t pray it away forever because God has limited our time on this earth and no one can change it.

So we see our loved ones and ourselves fade away, or we see our loved ones die in accidents and violence before they reach three score and ten. We can’t fight death man to man.

But he does have limitations that he can’t cross. His power is limited to the time of common life. death is temporary. It is a sleep and God is going to wake everyone up whether in the resurrection of the righteous or the resurrection of the damned.

We will soon be celebrating Purim. Hamen was like death. He wasn’t satisfied to kill one man. He had to kill all Israel, men women and children in one day. Greedy, greedy, greedy. Just like the grave who is never satisfied.

On Purim God gave the children of Israel the Victory over their adversaries and he put the sword in their hands so that they could fight them. In the last days God will also put the sword in the hands of his children to fight against those who would try to harm them. One group of great leaders that God will prepare to protect his children are the seven Shepherds and eight Principal men. Micah 5:5-9 &15.

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was sent from the throne of God to save us. He is the Lamb slain before the foundation of the earth. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Revelations 1:17-18, “...Fear not, I am the first and the last, I am he that liveth and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forever more, amen, and have the keys of hell and death.” John 11:25-26, “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? I Corinthians 15: 26,51-57,

“The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. Behold, I shew you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Christ is the Victory! Life is the Victory! Our Faith is the Victory! Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
