The Week Ahead!

MSE Open House: 9/5/24

We will hold our annual Open House on Thursday 9/5 from 6-8PM. At 5:30 we will host a presentation on the LCPS November Bond Election where Mr. Hauser and Mr. MacIntosh will highlight how the bond will impact specifically Middle School East students. During the Open House, you will start with a welcome from the principals and then go through your child's schedules to hear presentations from each teacher!

MSE Tardy Policy

Being on time is essential for success in middle school. Students are expected to be on time for class--that means during the day from class to class they do not exceed their 5 minutes of passing, or in the morning they arrive to school on time. Parents, please get your student to school before 8:00 if you are driving them. Any student who arrives after 8:00am will receive a tardy. Please see MSE's tardy policy below and have a conversation with your child about getting to school on time, getting from class to class on time, and maximizing their learning so they avoid the following consequences.

MSE Wellness Time

We believe that at heart, middle schoolers are still kids! Kids deserve a break during the day to socialize, have fun, make new friends, or just burn some energy! This year at MSE we are instituting time built into every lunch period called "Wellness Time" but you can think of it as a middle school version of recess. After kids finish their lunch, they'll have the opportunity to earn some time to socialize and play with friends in the gym. Whether that be board games in our multi purpose space, basketball, cornhole, whatever! We want to provide as many different outlets to kids as possible as a fun way to socialize and take a break in the middle of their day. We could use some parent help though!!! Attached below is an Amazon List to help get this program off the ground and having the equipment necessary to give kids options! If you could help us out by purchasing something off the list (it will ship it right to MSE--or just an Amazon gift card!) or if you have any sports equipment, games, fun stuff that's still in good condition you would want to donate we would gladly put it to good use with kids! If you have any questions, or would like to donate stuff you already have--or buy from somewhere other than Amazon -- you can contact Mr. MacIntosh (assistant princiapl) at macinza@lc-ps.org or at 586-493-5200

Attendance

Attendance at school is very important, and we want every kid at MSE every day where they can best learn! Please make every effort to have your child in school, and on time, every day. In the event that a child has to miss school for being sick, or for an appointment, documentation is required (doctors note, etc). According the LCPS Code of Conduct, family vacations during regular school days are discouraged and those days may count towards truancy. According to the LCPS Board Policy and Code of Conduct, any student who misses 10 days of school will receive and letter and may be referred to the Macomb County Truancy Officer.

School Lunch and Breakfast

We are pleased to share that all students will be able to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch at school each day. To help us continue to receive important funding for our building, we need each family to please take a few minutes to complete the Education Benefits form. You may log into the Family Portal at lansecreuse.familyportal.cloud then click on "Apply for Benefits." This is for ALL families, regardless of your financial situation. This is crucial for us at MSE to get accurate up-to-date information so we can service students and families.

LCPS will no longer be utilizing NutriSlice for school menus this year. Menus will be uploaded monthly to the LCPS Food and Nutrition site but will also be included here in the Eagle Weekly.

Comfort Zone Camp Opportunity

Comfort Zone Camp is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children who have experienced the death of a parent, guardian, sibling, or close friend. We provide free camps throughout the year designed to help children ages 7-17 (up to 18 if still in high school) navigate their grief in a supportive and understanding environment. Thanks to the generous partnership with the Herbert Adelman Foundation, we are excited to host an upcoming camp in Michigan for children who have lost a loved one or friend to suicide.

The camp program will take place on September 20-22 at Camp Tamarack in Ortonville. This camp will offer a safe space for children to connect with others who share similar experiences and to participate in trust-building activities and age-based support groups. Use the link below to access Camp Comfort.
