Governors Annual Report to Parents 2023-24

A Word By The Chair of Governors

It’s a pleasure to present to parents, on behalf of the Board of Governors, our Annual Report, which outlines information regarding the school during the 2023-2024 academic year. As stakeholders in the school, it is important for you to be informed of events, and to hold us as governors accountable for your child’s education. I would like to thank the staff for all their hard work and commitment, and to you as parents for your support. The involvement of parents is vital to ensure a child’s success at school and the governors are thankful to you for this. The academic year has been very challenging, and the staff have worked extremely hard to provide a balanced curriculum and ensure that all pupils have the opportunity to achieve their potential and succeed in a happy, open and caring atmosphere. The children have enjoyed listening to guests and visitors to the school, and were given opportunities to work in the local community, attending a wide range of educational trips and visit, allowing them to enjoy interesting and exciting experiences. We also had a successful time in the Eisteddfod, which saw the Ysgol y Llys brand flourish once again, and it was great to see the sports teams competing locally once again with many successes. I would like to conclude by praising the efforts of the Parents and Teachers Association for all their hard work, and their efforts are greatly appreciated. The school's governors are committed to our roles and responsibilities and are proud to work with staff and parents in order to maintain high standards and offer children first class experiences and care. I would like you to take time to read the report and reflect on the academic success and the highlights of our school during 2023-2024.

Finance

See appendix 1 outlining the full statement of the school budget. The school's budget was used to ensure the best educational experiences for pupils and to ensure appropriate resources for them. The school uses the additional funding to target literacy, numeracy and pupil wellbeing. The Social Deprivation Grant is used purposefully to meet the specific needs of pupils, additional resources and staff were organised to support and raise standards in these areas. We are very grateful to the PTA and to Clwb Llawen y Llys for purchasing a wide range of resources for the school.

In 2023-2024 Ysgol y Llys received a grant of £55,200 through the Pupil Development Grant. This was spent on: Intervention programmes and support and SEN resources

Additional Learning Needs

Following Mrs Glesni Thomas' secondment to Denbighshire County Council as part of their ALN team, Mrs Emma Robertshaw is responsible for Additional Learning Needs provision at school which involves regular discussions with teachers, support staff and parents. Mrs Paula Evans supports groups of pupils during the week to develop various areas of their individual development plans. Miss Hanna Hughes is the schools’ wealfare officer. She supports pupils and parents on a consistant basis. Mrs Rhianwen Mason and Mrs Bethan McCabe are our Friends Resilience co-ordinator in school. They support pupils that need the emotional and social support. Specific tasks and Individual Development Plans (IDP) are given to children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) who have been identified as needing Additional Learning Provision (ALP), with the other children on universal or targeted interventions. Teachers and support staff work hard to implement these plans as the children strive to succeed with their targets. We work with relevant outside agencies to ensure appropriate support and some pupils have benefited from on- to-one support. We fully comply with the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal (Wales) Act which has been in effect for Nursery and years 1, 3 & 5 since January 2022, with the Special Educational Needs Code being phased out for the other year groups, this year.
