An Essential Graveside Visit for three SFA cousins
By: Johnny Vann Scruggs
On their visit to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for our 2019 SFA reunion, three Scruggs cousins visited the grave of their great-great-grandfather in a churchyard on a hill. SFA Founder, Gene Scruggs, founding member, Jack Scruggs, and Searching for Scruggs Editor, yours truly, Johnny Vann Scruggs, visited and tended the gravestone for Drury Dobbins Scruggs, who ministered for many years at the Stateline Baptist Church on the border between North and South Carolina. Helping to tend the Dobbins family gravestones were Jack's wife, Anna, and his daughter, Linda. Gene spent some time alone in quiet conversation with his daughter and her friend at DD's grave. The first photo in this collage is a Relationship Chart, which is a product from our Archivist, Janice, showing how my brother, Jack Scruggs is related to Earl Scruggs, our most noteworthy musician, master of the Banjo.
