Welcome to our latest newsletter! SATs week always seems to bring hot weather! I must start with congratulating the children on their hard work. Pick any of the relevant cliches around all one can do is try one's best etc etc etc and this was certainly fulfilled. Thank you to the staff for their hard work in preparing our children for what is always a challenging week. The children were a credit to themselves, their family and our lovely school. An amazing effort.
I know we have lots of things planned to reward the children and their sterling efforts. Watch this space!
Next week is Sports Day week. We are hosting years 4, 5 and 6 at Dorothy Hyman stadium as usual. The younger children will be making use of our fantastic sports pitch. We are hoping to welcome several families to see them and again I know you will be delighted with their efforts.
On Sports Day (see below) please come to school in PE Kit. A PE House T-shirt will be provided by school
Please bring:
- A Water bottle.
- A Sun Hat.
- Please apply sun cream before the start of the day.
- Year 4-6 children only - may be taken home from Dorothy Hyman Stadium AS LONG AS THE CHILD'S NAME IS 'TICKED OFF' A LIST BY THEIR CLASS TEACHER.
Straight after sports day, our Year 6 children will embark upon their London trip. The itinerary looks fantastic; the final draught was sent out by e-mail earlier this week. What I am certain of is that children will create memories for life. Our capital city is a magical place. Have a wonderful time!
Today our Year 3 and 4 Athletics team will be representing Birkwood. An incredible afternoon last Friday has been celebrated with the Key Stage 1 Superstars winning our local area event. They were delighted when they returned to school. Thank you again to Mr Walton for his work in the sporting arena!
This Monday (19th May) – we have a change to our menu. The burger option will be replaced with pizza.
I would like to politely remind families that Packed Lunches should not contain Nuts. This is in case of allergies and includes the use of ‘Nutella.’ Chocolate bars can’t really be advised but Snickers and other snacks with nuts MUST be avoided please.
We have been asked to circulate a Parent survey on Childcare. Please spare a few minutes to complete via this link.
I must ask our families to show consideration again around parking. Pavements have been blocked & families with prams/ buggies etc. have struggled to keep off the road. The Highway Code explicitly states that you "MUST NOT" drive on or over a pavement, footpath, or bridleway except for lawful access to property or in an emergency. We MUST look after each other and refrain from parking on yellow lines outside of school.
I wish to signpost you to an upcoming Barnsley SEND Local Offer Live Event, taking place on Tuesday 3rd June 2025 from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm. The event will be held at The Arena, Barnsley Metrodome, S71 1AN. This is a drop-in event, allowing families and professionals the flexibility to visit at a time that suits them best. There are over 40 confirmed SEND specific support, leisure, advice and information services in attendance, and the event is still growing!
There will be performances from Mencap Take a Bow, Keynote speakers and co-production activities taking place throughout the day.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead of what will be a superb and busy week in school. Thank you for all your support.
