Johnston Community Primary School Friday 26th April 2024

Dear parents/guardians,

It has been another action packed week in school with lots of exciting learning; plenty for us all to be proud of. On Monday, our mixed netball team and our girls football team represented Johnston in the Pembrokeshire Finals. Mrs Evans was full of praise for both teams who represented the school with passion.

Curriculum Corner

The hall was awash with excitement during Friday's assembly as I shared with pupils all of the wonderful new books that we have purchased as part of our unique 'core book offer'. A big thank you to Ascona who supported the first wave of our purchases. Our 'core book' offer runs in conjunction with our traditional teaching of reading and is aimed at supporting pupils to develop a love of stories! At the end of each day, pupils will spend the last fifteen minutes of each day immersing themselves in an imaginary world through reading! Sessions will also be accompanied by higher order questions to facilitate pupils' thinking and understanding.

Attendance Reminder

Well done to LRC 1 who achieved 98% attendance this week. You are our best class this week.

Don't forget the really useful guidance provided by the NHS: Is my child too ill for school?

This will help you make a decision about whether to keep a child off school or send them in. Please remember that minor coughs and colds should not prevent a child from coming into school.

This time of year is really exciting and busy. If children miss school they are not only missing learning, but often will miss lots of our special events and activities, which makes them feel left out.
