Artificial Intelligence Information

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to transform a wide range of industries and applications. However, everyone should be aware of the limitations and biases of AI chatbots, and critically evaluate the outputs generated by these models.

CSUN Academic Technology AI Workshops

The Systemwide Generative AI Resources website by the California State University (CSU) provides valuable information and resources related to generative AI. Here are some key features:

  • AI in July Recorded Webinars available: CSU hosted webinars on generative AI, covering various topics and applications.
  • Online Courses: Members of the CSU community can self-enroll in online courses related to generative AI. One such course is the Academic Applications of AI (AAAI) Faculty Micro-Credential, designed by SDSU to enhance understanding of generative AI.
  • Recent Publications: The website features publications related to generative AI.

Here are some practical readiness tips to help you manage your course:

Canvas

Canvas has all the features of a modern learning management system including functionality for managing enrollments, sharing documents, submitting assignments, and assigning grades, as well as personalized features for individual students. Faculty can receive Canvas support from the Faculty Technology Center (FTC). Check out CSUN’s Faculty Canvas Support Website for resources on getting started in Canvas or come to one of our various workshops, demos or drop-in sessions.

Canvas Template

The CSUN Canvas Template is a framework of best practices to help you set up your Canvas course. This resource for CSUN Faculty was developed by Academic Technology, Faculty Development and Faculty Fellows, and was created with the CSU’s Quality Learning and Teaching Standards, equity-minded teaching, and universal design and accessibility principles in mind.

Updated for Fall 2024 with an AI Literacy page for Students to explore!

Panopto

Panopto is CSUN’s online video platform for recording, hosting, and sharing video. With Panopto, you can simultaneously record video from a webcam, capture your screen, and audio from a microphone, or upload your own video files. Panopto also makes any classroom on campus lecture capture-ready. With Panopto's integration with Canvas, you can share your videos throughout your courses wherever you find the Rich Content Editor. Once in Panopto, you can share your videos with students, anyone in the CSUN community, and beyond. With Zoom Cloud Recording enabled, your meetings are automatically imported.

Accessibility

As part of CSUN’s commitment to excellence through diversity and inclusion, all learning and course materials distributed to students must be made accessible. This means all materials including digital hand-outs, videos, software, and course content within a learning environment, such as Canvas, must follow accessibility and universal design requirements to enhance student learning and ensure all students have access to information regardless of any disabilities.

ePortfolios

ePortfolios are digital collections of work, reflections, and achievements that demonstrate an individual's skills, experiences, and growth over time. Unlike traditional portfolios, ePortfolios are stored and shared online, providing a dynamic and interactive way to showcase one's academic journey.

Join us to learn more about ePortfolios and how to incorporate them into your classes. Meet with our ePortfolio Coordinator as they highlight the ways ePortfolios can be used to help your students grow into professionals.

  • Learn how to use ePortfolios as a tool to showcase student employability as well as stand out to potential employers
  • Learn to use Canvas ePortfolios as a reflective tool for students to highlight their skills, achievements, and projects

Canvas Insights

Canvas Insights is a new Canvas tool custom built by CSUN allowing faculty to easily communicate with individual students in their classes based on an early alert. Alerts are important because they let you provide positive feedback to students who are doing well, and encouragement and support to students who need assistance. Faculty can access Canvas Insights using the link in the Navigation menu.

CSUN's homegrown tool for early alerts.

FTC Tech Pantry

The Faculty Technology Center (FTC) has opened a Tech Pantry where faculty can use items like Cintiq Pro and Wacom tablets, 360 degree cameras, microphones, and more!

To learn more or sign up to use one or more of these devices, please contact the Faculty Technology Center: ftc@csun.edu

Faculty Media Studio

Did you know Academic Technology has a media studio available to faculty? Work with experts to bring your vision to reality. You can film interviews, mini-lectures, grant proposal videos, and so much more! Work with our team of Media Services to make your vision, into course materials and videos.

Lightboard

Lecture, Demonstration, Explanation. The Lightboard is a glass chalkboard full of light that allows you to face students while writing on the board. You can write notes, draw sketches, and perform equations as you lecture. When you're done, the Media Studio provides you with a video file that can be uploaded to Panopto, Canvas Studio, or YouTube and embedded in your course.

Bring your laptop and your questions and work with a technician to find a resolution. In-person support is available in the University Library, First Floor, Learning Commons.

DUO for Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to your online accounts. Verifying your identity using a second factor (like your phone or other mobile device) prevents anyone but you from logging in, even if they know your password. CSUN uses Duo multi-factor authentication for any application that stores or processes Level 1 Confidential information.
