US Secretary of Agriculture Announces Rural Veterinary Action Plan During Visit to MSU
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins announced a Rural Veterinary Shortage Action Plan to address critical needs relating to food animal health and large animal care in rural areas during her visit to Mississippi State University.
Dean's Message
Dear Friends,
This week, we will break ground on our many new construction projects. Earlier this month, I sat down with Wade Leonard, the host of the College’s podcast, “The Vet Med Cast,” to discuss each of the projects and our timelines in the construction process. Please listen to that episode if you would like to learn more about these projects.
Late last month, we were paid a visit by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. It was an honor having them visit the CVM, and it is heartening to know that Washington is taking the need for new veterinary professionals as seriously as we are. There is a full story about their visit in this edition of Pegasus Press.
Finally, thanks to everyone who came to this year’s CVM Alumni Weekend. It was wonderful meeting all those who attended. This is our second year hosting the event, and we are excited to see it grow larger in both scope and attendance each year.
All the best,
Nicholas Frank, Dean
One and Done: A Single Injection Keeps Pups Playing All Year
For many dog owners, managing arthritis feels like a constant battle—daily pills, multiple medications, stomach upset, and the heartbreak of watching a beloved pet limp, struggle to rise, or give up once-loved activities. But thanks to two veterinarians at Mississippi State University’s Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Flowood, there’s new hope in the form of a single injection that can keep some dogs comfortable for an entire year.
Staff Spotlight: Nancy Wilson
When you report to work at the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine or when you walk through the doors as a client in the college’s Animal Health Center, you’re likely to run into someone who’s been at the heart of the action for more than 20 years. Nancy Wilson, who joined CVM as a veterinary technician and now serves as associate director for clinical staff success, has seen just about everything during her two-plus decades. From tiny exotic pets to large animal emergencies, she’s seen and done it all, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
