Miracle Worker A show in progress

The Miracle Worker, Mercy High School's new spring play, is slowly but surely coming together and is proving to be a spectacular show about the childhood of the great Helen Keller and the governess who helped pave her path to greatness, Annie Sullivan.

The cast of The Miracle Worker work with choreographer Madison Roman to learn how to accurately portray a young blind child. The cast learn how to safely perform stage combat and how to let each other know when things get too rough on stage.

The Tech Crew works alongside the actors, helping them block their scenes and keep track of the cues for each scene. They also build the set that will transform Franey Hall into the Keller Household.

During the Tech Crew's designated work sessions, they started work on painting 3- sided walls, called periaktois. They allow actors to have more room on stage while also being able to quickly and efficiently switch from the inside of the Keller household to the garden or school scenes.

Senior Lexi Huss shared her thoughts on the progress of the play and how her and the props team is coming along. Lexi said, "I think props are coming along really well. I think I've finally learned how to do things really well with no major issues and things are going super smoothly." Lexi also shared her thoughts on how the actors are doing with their props on stage thus far. "Definitely! The actors have been super flexible with what I've already gotten and what still needs to be done. A lot of the props are also not used for a very long period of time and most sit on the set itself as opposed to being in someones pocket for example. They shouldn't have any problems come tech week."
