Dear parents and carers,
This week started with International Day of Awesomeness. What a great way to start the week and to give recognition to everything that’s awesome!
We have celebrated the importance of friendships and teamwork – just like the lyrics of the song:
And as we know, the song is from the Lego movie, and we LOVE Lego here! The children make AWESOME creations.
Our AWESOME cheer squad, The Darlinghurst Darlings, obviously wanted to celebrate everything that is awesome too!
The song definitely gets stuck in your head!
Children have continued to share their AWESOME poetry from last week’s engagement in the poetry competition with Jen Feroze, parent and PTA member.
The poems have been outstanding and today some year one children came to show me their work and selected their own value stickers for their work. They selected Determination, Achievement and Excellence!
This week children have also demonstrated their personal attributes – which we call RAINBOW words in school. They have shown kindness and generosity as they have been thinking about helping others. This has included feeding the ‘hungry cupboard’ for those in need in the City.
The Hungry Cupboard was designed by an ex-pupil now in Year 7, Eden Rose, and is being used to store food for St Vincents to collect. Yesterday was National Good Samaritan day. So, this has been perfectly timed and a reminder to help others.
Whilst we know the Phrase, ‘Good Samaritan’ based on a biblical parable, the day extends to thinking about your ‘neighbour’ and offering a helping hand to others as often as we can. We celebrate kindness in all of its forms and love to fill our rainbow buckets with kindness.
Finally, the PTA surprised the staff today with bundles of goodies to celebrate the Ofsted outcome. They also gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers, What a lovely surprise!
I wish you a wonderful weekend. As always, enjoy your family time together.

Tea & Talk
On March 20th at 2.30pm Mrs Powell will be talking about the Year 4 Multiplication Times table Check. Year 4 parents will have the opportunity to find out more about how this national check which takes place in the summer term. Mrs Powell will explain the process behind the check and how you can best support your child at home.
All children from year 2 to 6 have access to and regularly engage with Times tables Rockstars in school and as part of their home learning. Times tables are best learnt frequently in order for them to ‘stick’ in the long-term memory. They also help children in other aspects of their Maths learning especially as they move through the school and into Secondary education
Every year in June, as part of our summative assessments, Year 1 engage in a phonics screening check. They are assessed on their reading of 40 words, 20 of which are real and 20 of which are nonsense ‘pseudo’ or ‘alien’ words. Alien words test your child’s ability to decode words without the support of any memory of words that they may have come across in reading. Mrs Richards will be running a Tea and Talk on Wednesday 26th March, specifically about the Year 1 phonics screen.
Mrs Hahn will be holding an information evening ahead of the Year 6 SATs on Thursday 3rd April at 5.30pm. In this session, Mrs Hahn will be sharing revision materials and guides to use with your child in preparing for the SATS. We look forward to seeing you there.
Infant Music Festival
On Thursday, Puffin class from Year 1 represented our academy at the SEESMA Infant Music Festival. They joined three other local schools and performed collaboratively, singing five songs and braved one individual performance. This year’s theme was all about Weather. Our children loved being there and were a credit to Darlinghurst, and they were the youngest children there! They sang with enthusiasm and played their instruments in time with gusto, following the elements they have been taught in their music lessons. We are super proud of all of them.
Donations
Our children tell us that they would like to have more games and puzzles to keep them busy during wet play sessions. A number of years ago, our wonderful PTA provided each class with a PALS Wet Play Box. These were filled with puzzles, games, card games etc. However, over time, these resources have needed refreshing and replacing.
We would therefore like to ask our families to donate any suitable and age-appropriate puzzles, games, cards sets etc. to your child’s class during the next few weeks. Children can bring things into school and class teachers will then be able to re-stock their wet play boxes.
Thank you for your support.

Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day is back on Friday 21 March 2025!
We have a limited supply of Red Noses available to purchase (via your child’s ParentPay account), priced at £2 each.
Any Noses purchased will be distributed by your child’s class teacher on Thursday 20th March, ready for the big day!
To celebrate 40 years of Comic Relief, this year’s Red Noses are based on classic Noses from each decade – from the 80’s, 90’s, Noughties and 2010’s. You might even get lucky and find the Rare Ruby Nose marking Comic Relief's 40th birthday!
Children should wear full school uniform please but are invited to wear their Red Nose to school.
