What is an Online Meeting?
Online classroom meetings are a way for you and your classmates to see each other and talk to each other on their devices in real time. You can use Chromebooks, computers, tablets, or phones.
Online classroom meetings use a video chatting application that allows you to connect virtually. You will be using these tools to attend online classroom meetings when you and your classmates cannot be together in class.
Mastering online meetings will strengthen your collaboration, communication, and creativity skills. These are valuable skills you will need to be successful in whatever you do in your future.
How do I Join an Online Meeting?
You can use almost any computer device (as long as it has a camera) to download an app from iTunes or Google Play. You will get an email or link to the online meeting.
A meeting I.D. will be included. In order to be admitted to the waiting room, click or tap on the I.D. when it is time for the meeting. Join a few minutes before the start time, and wait for your teacher to let you into the meeting.
What Equipment do I Need?
In addition to your Chromebook or computer, you will need the following:
1. Web camera - A camera will allow you to see your teacher and friends face-to-face. And don't forget to turn it on.
2. Headset with a microphone - This will let you hear and be heard more clearly.
**TIP - Be sure to check your audio and video before the meeting starts.
Are there rules?
We all want our online classroom meetings to be successful. We want to do our best, be our best, and show our best behavior to each other. As part of a class community we need to follow some rules of etiquette to make each meeting a great one!
Tips for Becoming an Online Meeting Pro
Be on Time!
The online classroom meeting is your classroom at home. You are expected to have the same conduct during an online meeting that you would have if you were in your classroom at school.
Always be respectful to your teacher and your classmates by being on time and ready to learn. It can be very distracting when you enter the classroom late, and you will probably miss some important information.
A few minutes before your online meeting, make sure you have all of your equipment and materials ready. Log in and wait for your teacher to let you into the meeting.
Be in the Right Place
Find a quiet spot for your online classroom meeting. It should be a work space. A desk or table is best.
We want to see you, so make sure you do not sit in front of a window. The light is too bright there. Also, sit close enough to the camera so that we can see your face.
We want to hear you, so do not sit in a noisy or busy part of your house. You need to focus without interruptions from your family and pets. Also, remember to mute your microphone when you are not talking, and to unmute the microphone when it's your turn to talk.
Stay in one spot during your call. Resist the urge to head to the kitchen for a snack or take your class meeting outside. It's distracting to your classmates to see you moving around during the class.
Behave Like a Pro
It may seem like fun to change your background, use the chat button, or change your name, but playing around is distracting. It takes away learning time from you and your classmates. Show respect by using the virtual meeting tools in the appropriate way.
Don't eat during your virtual meeting. You may have some water near-by to have a small drink now and then.
Be active, enthusiastic, and engaged.
Dress to impress! Remember this is school, everyday is not pajama day. Wear clothing that is appropriate for school.
