Weekly Newsletter wEST mEADOWS - 28th june 2024

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

At last the sun has made an appearance! The children have enjoyed playing on the grass at playtimes this week now that we finally have some good weather. Don’t forget that next Friday 5th July is our annual Summer Fayre in school as well! Children can be collected from classroom doors at 2:00pm. Any children collected after 2:15pm will need to be collected from the F2 classroom doors, located on the small playground. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sports Day:

Next week we are holding our sports days as below:

Tuesday 2nd 1:30pm - F2

Wednesday 3rd 9:30am - Year 1 and 2

Wednesday 3rd 1:30pm - Year 3 and 4

Thursday 4th 1:30pm - Year 5 and 6

Friday 5th 10:30am - F1 sports day

Events are weather dependent so please check Twitter and your emails in case we do have to rearrange an event at short notice. Children will need the correct sports kit and appropriate footwear. Please ensure that if the weather is hot, children have suntan cream, a hat and a drink. There will be a PTA tuck shop with treats for sale after each event. For events which take place in the afternoon, children can be collected from external classroom doors after the event and any siblings can also be collected at this time. Please allow staff time to get the children safely off the field before heading down to the classroom doors to collect them for safeguarding reasons. For morning events, children will need to stay in school for the remainder of the day.

No Smoking Site & Conduct:

Please can I remind all parents and family that West Meadows is a smoke free site including vapes. This includes on the playground, pathways and the school field. Can I also please ask all parents to be mindful of the language they use at school events so that we can make family events fun and safe for all. Thank you in advance for your support with this at future events.

Barnsley Music Festival:

This week I had the pleasure of accompanying our Year 5 pupils to the Music Festival at the Metrodome on Thursday where they played and sang with children from schools across St. Mary’s Academy Trust. It was wonderful to see them perform and I am very proud of them all for their hard work and perseverance when mastering the cornet this year. Well done all!

Arts Award:

This year, our Year 5 children have participated in the Arts Award, in which they achieve a national recognized award. Some of our Year 5 children had the opportunity to represent the school at the Arts Award celebrations at Horizon Community College on Thursday evening. Well done to all of Year 5 for their achievements.

Thank you.:

A massive thank you to all of those who helped raise money for costumes for our school productions last Friday! We raised £163 which will be spent directly on costumes for the Year 6, 5 and 4 production of Wizard of Oz this year and then invested in building up a future supply of quality costumes for all pupils to use. This week is our Year 6 camping event. We would like to thank everyone who helped with fundraising towards the event. All of the children across school also enjoyed a special treat on Thursday or Friday as a thank you for their massive help in enabling it to happen! Thank you to all of our wonderful community!

Attendance Matters!

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.
