Our Head Girl is talented in so many ways. One of her talents is Oratory and I managed to be made privy to her Level 3 English speech. She has generously agreed to allow me to share it with you.
Thank you, Frankie.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori
This week we have been celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori at Te Kāreti o Hato Matiu (St Matthew’s).
We enjoyed a special assembly, with a performance by Kapa Haka and a heartfelt speech by Anahera Harris-Haami.
Junior and senior groups from Ngātahi performed at Super 12 at Mākoura College on Wednesday night, with the Ngātahi Senior rōpū winning second place.
Students in Year 10 PE also competed in a Kī-o-rahi tournament, where it was essential to understand and speak in Te Reo. One of our teams came 2nd in junior girls loosing 9-7 to Makoura in the final, our other team came 3rd. They also got a FairPlay award.
As a fundraiser Ngātahi organised a Hāngī, which was enjoyed by many students for lunch on Friday.
A number of our teachers have been busy practising and are performing tonight at Kaiako Tini – a Haka Ngahau festival for Wairarapa secondary school teachers. This has pushed many of us out of our comfort zone but we have enjoyed the wero!
Kia kaha Te Reo Māori!
Girls who Grow Imagination Challenge
The Imagination Challenge brought together students from St Matthews, Chanel College, Solway College and Kuranui College, passionate mentors from across the region and a collective of wonderful judges to learn more about the creativity and solutions designed on the day relating to water.
Many of the groups of students designed solutions for drought, flooding and on farm run off and it was super exciting to see these evolve throughout the day through the Design Thinking process.
We had two teams participate - Isabelle Lynn and Clara Andrews, and Sophie White and Charlotte Macauley.
Sophie and Charlotte took out First Place with The Water Grid; Community water system - Water catchment, storage and re distribution of water to places that are in short supply much like the Energy Grid. This team won a Day at Pukaha as Rangers and a mentorship with Jennie Marks from Kokotau consulting.
