Dear Parents/guardians,
The weather really has given us a feel good factor in school this week. It has been an excellent start to the term and I hope that pupils are enjoying their learning experiences.
Curriculum Corner - Maths Support
During our staff meeting on Thursday night I spent time talking to staff about our maths curriculum and the importance of regularly re-visiting key concepts to build pupils recall in key areas.
How can I support my child in maths?
Key instant recall facts are a great way to support your child. This is a link which I have developed at Johnston and I thought might be useful to parents at Hook. Click on the button below for a link to the school website which will provide more information.
ADHD Course
The ADHD course continues this week but it will start fifteen minutes later, 13:15, to allow us to finish cleaning up at the end of lunch.
Outdoor Learning
On Tuesday we had a lovely morning learning outside. Pupils in Ser Mor walked to the Cleddau and talked about the history of coal mining in the area before enjoying a small treat. Pupils in Dolffin and Morlo enjoyed our outdoor learning area.
Site Renovations
In a few weeks I am planning to hold a Saturday working morning at school to try to improve the outdoor learning areas. Weather permitting, I am aiming for Saturday 28th September. I am starting to create a list of jobs which includes things such as: trimming plants, painting, fixing up black boards, cleaning gutters etc.

Attendance
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, school attendance across Wales has been severely impacted. Our attendance last year finished at 93.8%. Our target is 95%.
We are under increasing pressure to improve our attendance. It became apparent last year that attendance on Fridays in some asymmetric schools was significantly lower than attendance Monday to Thursday. We will continue to monitor attendance on Fridays separately with aim of improving this. We are going to be enhancing our attendance rewards and children with attendance over 95% at the end of the autumn term will receive a special treat.
Thank you for your continued support.
