Join us for a day of cultural celebration at the 6th Annual International Mother Language Event, where admission is free and everyone is welcome! It's a family-friendly affair perfect for both kids and adults, filled with engaging activities and performances.

Cultural Performances featuring:

  • 11: 45 am – 12 pm: Yerevan Dance Ensemble organized by Flora Bagdasaryan.
  • 12 pm – 12:20 pm: Abhinaya Dance Company: The Abhinaya Dance Company of San Jose was founded by its Artistic Director, Mythili Kumar in 1980, to present innovative and professional quality performances of South Indian classical dance forms.
  • 12:30 PM - 12:50 PM: Ballet Afsaneh : Afsaneh Arts serves the Central Asian, Iranian- and Afghan-American communities and people who appreciate art from all cultures. Afsaneh Arts programs provide eloquent testimony to the unique Central Asian expressive arts and promote appreciation for the diverse expressions of our mutual humanity.
  • 1:00 PM - 1:20 PM: Chinese Performing Arts of America (CPPA): Founded in Silicon Valley as a nonprofit organization since 1991, CPAA is chartered to introduce Chinese culture as an integral part of the American society through performing arts. CPAA presents these arts of exceptional beauty and richness so that these cultural treasures can be shared by the world.
  • 1:30 PM - 1:50 PM: Grupo Folklorico Los Laureles: Los Laureles Academy is a leading dance school based in San Jose and Gilroy tasked with bringing the artistic creations of Mexico to life. Since 2007, Los Laureles has offered classes to all ages representing Mexico in the United States.
  • 2:00 PM - 2:20 PM: Turkish Folk Dances (TUFOD) South Bay is run by volunteers and it aims to strengthen ties between the Turkish Americans in San Francisco Bay Area and their Turkish heritage via the universal language of music and dance.
  • 2:30 PM - 2:50 PM: VONN Dance School of the St. Andrew Armenian Church is an Armenian Dance Group that will perform classical Armenian folk rhythm and modern dances.

Mother Tongue: Adult and Youth Artists Explore Language & Cultural Identity

Children and Adults Art Exhibition at Camden Community Center

For the sixth year in a row, we invited artists to submit their artwork about their Mother Language for a showcase at the event. This year we are showcasing artists' creations at the Camden Community Center in San Jose on March 3 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

  • 12 pm – 3 pm: Art exhibit is free and open to the public
  • 3 pm – 4 pm: Artists are presented with certificates and swag bags. We will announce winners in each category.
