CNPS SCHOOL VISION: To build a community of curious, creative and engaged learners who are empowered to meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world. Collectively we will work with our students to become responsible global citizens who have the skills, knowledge and personal attributes they need for their future.
Wominjeka everyone! August has been a vibrant and exciting month at CNPS, filled with wonderful activities and events that bring our community together. Among all the fantastic events we hold each year, our Book Week parade remains a firm favorite. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm of our students, staff, and parents as we celebrated our love for reading. The creativity in the costumes was truly outstanding, and having so many of you join us for the parade made the day even more memorable. Thank you for your participation and support!
As we continue to strive for excellence, we value your feedback. Constructive feedback helps us understand what we’re doing well and identify areas for improvement, ensuring we meet the needs of our community. This month, we invite you to take part in the Parent Opinion Survey. Your insights into various aspects of our school, from teaching and learning to the school environment, are invaluable in helping us shape the future of Coburg North Primary School.
The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, and we encourage you to check your emails for the link. Your positive feedback is also appreciated, as it lets us know where we are doing a good job. Together, we can continue to make Coburg North a place where every child feels supported and inspired.
District and Divisions Athletics Update
On Wednesday 7th of August, CNPS participated in the Coburg District Athletics Carnival. We had loads of people and even more supporters. Congratulations to the students who finished top 2 in their events and qualified for the Division Athletics Carnival, to be held on 11th September! Sadly, the Grade 5s will be on camp that week, therefore they are not able to compete in this event. Congratulations to Gus (5C), Ivan (5C), Harry P (5B), Pearl R (5A), Chrysanthi T (5B) and Kai (5B). Well done making it this far and enjoy camp!
For the rest of our students, representing CNPS in the 10 years age group is Ned F (3B) in long jump, Berlin (4B) also in long jump, Will A (4C) in high jump and Jonas N (4C) in 1500m. Skipping Club and Jump Rope for Heart
At CNPS, we have been running a Skipping Club every Monday and Friday this term to promote physical activity and Jump Rope For Heart. Jump Rope For Heart is a fun skipping programme used to raise money for the Heart Foundation. The Heart Foundation, a charity going to a great cause, helps to support people suffering from heart disease and recovering from heart surgery. So far as a school, we have raised $8577 and skipped over 140 hours. We have 108 registered students, 62 helping our school to raise more money.
We also have some shoutouts to people who have been our top 5 skippers so far:
Vivienne R (6A) with 9+ hours, Layla D (4A) who has also done 9+ hours, Leo C (2D) with 8+ hours, Corrine C (2A) with 7+ hours and Joy (4A) with 6+ hours.

100 Days Of Foundation
On Wednesday the 7th August, our Foundation students celebrated their 100th Day of School with a day of fun! Students came to school in costume, related to the number 100, and started the day with breakfast in the classroom! A big thank you to the parent volunteers who helped us host a smooth Foundation breakfast.
National Week of Action Against Bullying
Our Grade 3 students proudly participated in the National Week of Action Against Bullying, demonstrating their commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive environment. As part of this important initiative, they joined the 'Better Together' webinar hosted by the eSafety Commissioner, gaining valuable insights into how we can all contribute to a bullying-free community.
Throughout the week, our students actively engaged in discussions around this year's theme, 'Everyone Belongs.' These conversations were enriched by daily videos that highlighted the importance of kindness, respect, and inclusivity. By participating in these activities, our Grade 3s are not just learning about the impact of bullying but also taking meaningful steps to ensure that everyone in our school feels valued and included.
We're proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing the positive influence they'll continue to have in our school community!
Grade 1 Excursion - Zoo
Science Day
Last Friday we had a wonderful day celebrating Science Day! Students were treated to a Cosmic Chemistry incursion from Mad About Science where we went on a journey into the solar system, witnessing explosive big bangs, counting down to exciting rocket launches, and discovering what makes our blue planet, Earth, truly special.
Each grade also engaged in a collaborative engineering challenge within their classrooms. Students in Foundation – Grade 2 designed a marble maze using playdoh, and students in Grade 3-6 engineered a paper ball run with a catch – the ball had to take the longest amount of time possible to exit the run. I’m pleased to be able to announce the winning engineers from grades 3-6:
- Grade 3: James, Chloe and Frances (3D)
- Grade 4: Tessa and Claire (4A)
- Grade 5: Sammy, Remy and Evie (5A)
- Grade 6: Lottie and Daniel (6C)
A special mention to Daniel and Lottie who managed the highest score across the whole school - what a great achievement!
Congratulations to everyone for embracing the challenges and making it a terrific day!
Author Visit - Cathy - 'Honey the Sea Dog'
As part of our Book Week celebration, Foundation and Grade 2 students were treated to a visit from Lola and Ed’s Nonna, Cathy. She read her ‘soon to be published’ book, Honey the Sea Dog, to us. Thanks for visiting all the way from Adelaide and helping to make our celebration special, Cathy.
Wellbeing and Inclusion Update- August 2024
We are quickly coming to the end of Term 3 and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the Spring weather arriving to finish off another exciting term at CNPS.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs) & Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings
Our dedicated staff are hard at work preparing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for Term 3. These plans are essential in tailoring the educational experience to meet the needs of our students. For those who require them, Student Support Group (SSG) meetings are scheduled to begin this week. These meetings provide an opportunity for parents, teachers, and support staff to collaborate on strategies and celebrate the success of our students.
Disability Inclusion
In preparation for the upcoming Disability Inclusion model, which will be rolled out in 2025, our School Improvement Team (SIT) recently met with Regional staff to gain further insights. We’re looking forward to continuing to learn alongside our regional colleagues as new professional learning and supports come out in term 4. This will ensure that our school is well-prepared to implement the model effectively, providing the best support for our students as 2025 commences.
Body Safety Program
We are pleased to share that the final session of this term’s Body Safety program was held last Monday. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the importance and impact of this initiative. Our Wellbeing and Inclusion Team (WIT) will meet with the Body Safety staff to review this year’s program and begin planning for next year. We are committed to continuing this vital work in our school community.
Professional Learning Communities (PLC)
This term, our Professional Learning Communities (PLC) have been focusing on effective classroom management strategies, specifically on gaining and maintaining student attention. Teachers have been utilising the coaching structure provided by Step-Lab to guide their improvement process. By moving through the improvement cycle, our educators are refining their practice to create more engaging and productive learning environments for our students.
Thanks

It has been very exciting to see the landscaping works on the O'Hea Street Entry Plaza and Foundation Playground extension get underway. The initial works have already started to transform these spaces. The bat tennis and down ball courts lines have also been resprayed.
