Football Tops Hamilton, Sits Fourth in NESCAC Standings
Fresh on the heels of an exciting win over Amherst a week ago, the Colby Football team was tested yet again on Homecoming. On an afternoon the program celebrated the 2000 NESCAC Championship team the Mules took down the Continentals 17-10.
For the second week in a row Colby scored on its opening possession. Earning his first career start at quarterback, Patrick Miller capped Colby's opening drive by finding Jack Nye in the corner of the endzone to put the Mules on the board.
Hamilton answered with a touchdown of their own near the end of the first half but Colby jumped back in front with a minute to go in the second quarter as Antone Moreis (headline photo) capped a four-play 66-yard drive with his fourth rushing score of the season.
Hamilton closed the gap to 14-10 in the third quarter converting their lone field goal attempt, but the Mules got three back when first-year Avi Gotshalk connected from 36 yards out in the fourth for the first field goal of his career. Hamilton drove all the way to Colby's 11-yard line looking for the equalizer with 36 second remaining but pass breakups by Nicholas Cox and Drew Ramos on third and fourth downs sealed the win for the Mules.
Colby's defense was stellar yet again led by Lincoln Merrill with 11 tackles and Dennis Dougherty right behind with 10. The Mules have allowed 10 or fewer points in three of their last four games. Merrill was named NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
Miller earned his first win at quarterback going 12-19 passing for 78 yards and a touchdown. The first-year also ran 15 times for 119 yards.
Colby is now 4-3 and sits in fourth place in the NESCAC standings with two games to go. The Mules travel to Tufts (also 4-3) next weekend before hosting the Polar Bears of Bowdoin on November 5th for the season finale and a shot to retain the CBB trophy.
Successful Trip to Midwest, Volleyball Takes Out #8 Wisconsin-Whitewater
With a weekend free from NESCAC action, the Colby Volleyball team took to the skies to travel to Wisconsin with top-10 matchups on the docket.
Despite falling in five sets to #3 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Colby defeated #8 Wisconsin-Whitewater as well as Augustana to come away with a 2-1 record on the week. The win over Whitewater marked the first victory for the Volleyball program against a top-10 opponent and solidified Colby's position amongst the best in all of Division III.
Reese Lloyd was phenomenal on the backline for the Mules. The sophomore defensive specialist led Colby in all three games in digs. Gabby Grujic was Colby's leader in assists, averaging over 30 assists/game. Five different Mules collected 10 or more kills in a match (LJ Grant, Brady Moseley, Kendall Glover, Marjorie Johnson, Cyanne Jones).
Grujic was named NESCAC Player of the Week for her efforts.
Colby is now 19-2 and ranks second in the NESCAC standings. With road games against Trinity and Conn. College this coming weekend to close out the regular season, the Mules have secured a home game Saturday, November 8 for the opening round of the conference tournament.

Wesleyan scored the game’s only goal in the 24th minute. From there, the Mules controlled play, firing 20 shots in the second half and earning 12 corner kicks in the contest, but the Cardinals defense held strong to preserve the shutout.
Before the match, the Mules honored their senior class of six alongside their families.
The Mules move to 8–3–3 overall and 4–3–2 in NESCAC play (tied for sixth in the conference). With a chance to host an opening round game for the NESCAC Playoffs, Colby heads into a key final regular season matchup Tuesday night at Bates.
Field Hockey Splits Week with Win Over Terriers, Fall to Cardinals
The Mules wrapped up a two-game week with a double-overtime victory over Thomas College on Monday before falling to Wesleyan on Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
In Monday’s non-conference matchup, the Mules controlled play from start to finish, outshooting Thomas 24–3 and earning a 7–2 edge in penalty corners. After a scoreless regulation and first overtime, Christina Sweeney delivered the game-winner in the 79th minute (her 10th goal of the season) to give Colby a 1–0 victory. The shutout marked Ginna Jacoby’s first of her collegiate career while playing nearly 80 minutes in net.
That momentum carried into Saturday’s contest against #8 Wesleyan, where the Mules created plenty of chances but ultimately came up short in a 4–0 loss. Colby matched the Cardinals in penalty corners (7–7) and generated 13 shots, but Wesleyan capitalized on its opportunities to secure the win.
