We are already halfway through another very busy term! Thank you so much for your support for the book and uniform sale which raised £119. We have lots of upcoming events planned and we hope to raise money to enhance the playground equipment. Children love the varied activities we have available at lunchtimes. By creating zones, this adds variety and decreases accidents!
A few highlights of the term so far...
Staff training and plans
Myself and Miss Schofield had an awesome day at the new Forest School base at Nevill holt Farm. This was a Principal's day exploring what outdoor learning could look like in our settings. We have come away inspired! The trust outdoor learning lead is going to spend some time planning with us to look at what outdoor learning could look like at Ingoldsby and beyond. We already have a couple of dates booked in the use the Nevill Holt site. Watch this space!
Bucket Time Training
Today, KS1 and EYFS staff are engaging in staff training to support communication and interaction and an ability to focus and give attention.
Spotlight on safeguarding
WhatsApp groups can be an incredibly useful communication tool but it can also become quite overwhelming when EVERYONE adds you to a group. By default, WhatsApp allows ANYONE to add you to a group—they just need your phone number—but you can change this. If you tap on ‘Settings’ and then go to ‘Privacy’, one of the options is ‘Groups’. This will give you 3 options to choose from:
- Anyone being able to add you to a group;
- Only people in your Contacts being able to add you;
- Anyone in your contacts can add you, but you can exclude people.
Once you have set this up, anyone who is not in your contacts (or anyone you have selected to exclude) has to send an invite to any new group they add you to—you can then either accept or decline. This should help give your child some control over what groups they actually want to be involved in and can help them manage groups they don’t want to be added to.
SEND Focus
Focus on Food
With changes to EYFS guidance we want to ensure any food brought in from home for celebration is balanced and meets the food guidelines. We would recommend fruit platters to share or non-edible options to celebrate with such as bubbles or stickers. Any food shared in the setting should be checked for potential allergens.
Many families like to celebrate their child’s birthday and other special events by bringing in a cake or sweets to the setting to share. This can mean that some children are eating these unhealthy foods several times a week.
I know we have some planned fundraising events that involve chocolate and cake, but we will consider how future events could align with the nutrition advice and we welcome any ideas to support this!
