ESTABLISHING ROOTS DESIGNED BY Ella Petry

DESIGN PROPOSAL

Establishing Roots is an intentional community located in Metro Atlanta that has a focus on supporting its inhabitants though every stage of life. The different unit types provide housing that can grow and evolve as the needs of its inhabitants change. Shared green spaces in each block allow for respite from the city while also allowing the residents to tailor the spaces to their shared needs. Water collection techniques are employed in each unit to capture water runoff water that can be used to supply personal gardens. The site contains amenities such as shared work-spaces and daycare services that not only serve its residents but also the greater Candler Park area. The amenities on the site allow for the elimination of cars and instead advocates for the revitalization of public transport (MARTA), biking, and walking. The now unused space will be turned into a flourishing and walkable community that fulfills the need for a missing-middle housing in the area.
