LPA Newsletter Friday 17th October 2025

Mr Kirby, Principal and Mrs Jones, Executive Principal
🌟Lodge Park Academy Newsletter – End of Autumn Term 1 🌟

What a fantastic and action-packed final week of Autumn Term 1 it has been at Lodge Park Academy! Our students and staff have truly embodied the spirit of teamwork, curiosity, and community through a wide range of events and opportunities.

We are also incredibly proud to share that Lodge Park Academy has been nominated for the ‘Spirit of Corby’ Awards in the Education category. This nomination is a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work and progress made over the past year in driving school improvement. We hope our entire school community will get behind us and vote in big numbers to help us celebrate this achievement together!

As part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, our community reflected on the importance of respect, inclusion, and standing up for what is right. Our House assemblies, led by our inspiring Heads of House, focused on the empowering theme “What is your superpower?”—encouraging every student to recognise and celebrate their unique strengths.

Adding a touch of fun and mystery, our House Masked Singer event had everyone guessing which teacher was behind the mask—what a brilliant way to end the term with laughter and team spirit! Meanwhile, Mr Cronin led afternoon assemblies on “How do I revise for my KPI’s?” to help students prepare effectively for success.

This week also featured our whole school PSHCE Drop Down Day, packed with meaningful activities and discussions, as well as the important Year 12 House Captain and Head Student interviews, showcasing the leadership potential of our Sixth formers.

The energy continued with sporting excellence—our Sixth Form Winter Sports Cup on Thursday and the DRET Winter Cup on Friday saw incredible participation and determination from students across Years 7–11. Alongside this, our Year 11 Hospitality and Catering booster day supported exam readiness, and we welcomed North Northants Community First Responders (NNCFR) into school to work with our Sixth form cohort on the vital “Restart a Heart” project.

It’s been a super busy, inspiring, and rewarding week, rounding off a brilliant first term. A huge thank you to all our students and staff for their hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity. We can’t wait to see what next term brings!

Thank you for supporting us over the course of this term.

Warm regards,
Lodge Park Academy Leadership Team

Tolerance in Trying Times: A Call to Stand Together

In a world that feels increasingly divided, the value of tolerance is more vital than ever. As communities across the UK and LPA , mark Black History Month, we are reminded of the long, ongoing struggle for racial justice and the importance of recognising our shared humanity.

This October, the celebration of Black excellence and resilience comes at a time when we are also grieving, and reckoning, with a shocking act of hate close to home.

Recently, the peace of Manchester was shaken when a local synagogue was attacked in a deliberate act of antisemitism. Places of worship are meant to be sanctuaries; symbols of peace, not targets of violence. This incident is not just an attack on the Jewish community; it is an attack on the fabric of our diverse society.

What Tolerance Really Means

Tolerance is more than passive acceptance, it’s the active choice to respect and protect one another, even when we differ in race, religion, culture, or belief. It’s standing up when hate rears its head. It’s listening to stories that are not our own. And it’s recognising that our fates are tied together, whether we walk into a church, a mosque, a synagogue, or none of the above.

Black History Month reminds us that systemic discrimination has deep roots but also that progress comes when people from all backgrounds unite. The civil rights movement in the US, the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, and campaigns for racial justice in the UK have all shown the power of solidarity across lines of difference.

Building Bridges, Not Walls

In light of the Manchester attack, we must reject the rhetoric of division and stand united against hate: antisemitism; racism; Islamophobia; xenophobia. Our diversity is not a weakness; it is a strength that must be defended. Tolerance begins in everyday acts: teaching children about different cultures, challenging harmful stereotypes, showing up for neighbours in need, and speaking out when others remain silent. In schools, in workplaces, and in our homes, we have the power to shape a more compassionate future.

A Shared Responsibility

Let this month be more than just a celebration of history; Let it be a commitment to building a more tolerant tomorrow. The Black community and the Jewish community, along with so many others, have faced prejudice and exclusion. But they have also demonstrated extraordinary resilience, culture, and contribution. As we honour Black History Month and respond with compassion to the Manchester synagogue attack, let’s talk to our children about: What kind of society do we want to be? One where hate is normalised — or one where tolerance and respect are the foundation of everything we do?

Sixth Form Open Evening

Thank you to all the parents and students who came to and participated in the Sixth Form open evening on Thursday 9th October. The event was a fantastic reflection of what our Sixth Form is about, our current Year 12 and 13 students led the conversations with prospective students about what the Sixth Form is like and why students should consider returning to us.

Year 7 - 9 Revision Webinars

Thank you to all the parents that took the time to tune into our webinar on the 9th October. It was nice to see so many parents engaging in the event providing them with key information about their child's KPI 1 assessments later this term.

Attendance

Each half-term we celebrate our students attendance through a variety of means including 100% "In It To Win It" prize draws, 5 Attendance points for each week of 100% attendance, 100% Student email and Parent MCAS, Houseopoly best Tutor Group attendance and Most improved attendance.

In addition we also celebrate our Tutor Groups who achieve various attendance challenges. This half term both 9PG and 7LG have achieved their first prizes and were rewarded for snacks for the whole tutor group.

We thank all of our families who are supporting our students to attend school each day and we look forward to celebrating more great attendance with our students next half term.

Mrs Cooper - Lodge Park Academy Vice Principal - Pastoral & Attendance
Moments Matter, Attendance Counts

Regular school attendance can facilitate positive peer relationships, which is a protective factor for mental health and wellbeing.

As we return to school and move into winter, there is inevitably an increase in illnesses. It can be tricky deciding whether to keep your child off school when they're unwell. There are government guidelines to support you in this decision.

https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

If you need to report your child’s absence, please do so before 08:15 on the day of the absence and each day of absence. If a child is absent from school for 3 days or more, our Attendance Welfare Officers will conduct a home visit.

LPA Music - Composition Challenge

Year 10 GCSE Music and Year 12 A-level Music students travelled to Malcolm Arnold Academy on Monday 13th October to hear their own compositions played by professional musicians of the Berkeley Ensemble. The pieces sounded fab and the musicians gave great feedback, which will form the the basis of developments before the final session in November. There really is no substitute for live music!

Mrs Olner - Lodge Park Academy Teacher of Music
DRET A-Level Music Conference

On Wednesday 15th October our Year 12 and Year 13 A-Level Music students travelled to Charnwood College to take part in an A-Level Music study day along with students from other DRET academies. The day was led by Mr Toyne and focused on one of our set works - Symphony 104 by Haydn. The day was really hands on (or feet on, if you look at the photo!) and full of opportunities to play, improvise and collaborate whilst analysing the symphony. Our students were excellent ambassadors for Lodge Park Academy and thoroughly enjoyed the day.

LPA House Championship 25/26
House Netball Results

The final round of the House Netball competition involving Year 11's and Sixth form has concluded after having to be rescheduled due to the weather conditions. Congratulations to Kestrel House who have been crowned this year’s House Netball Champions, adding 100 house points to their totaliser. It was a joint second place finish for Osprey and Goshawk who secured 75 points each followed by Red Kite in fourth place, picking up 25 points.

LPA House Masked Singer

It has been an exciting final week of term at LPA, featuring our very own version of the Masked Singer. Throughout the week we have been releasing videos of staff singing, whilst hiding their identity behind their costume. Following the release of each video students, staff and family members have been attempting to identify the member of staff behind the mask. Characters have included ‘Pumpkin’, ‘Devil’, ‘Penguin’ and ‘T-Rex’.

It has been an extremely popular competition hitting over 200 submissions each day. Due to the final video being released today, results will not be shared until after half term.

The house with the most correct guesses will be crowned champions and the highest participation across the week will be awarded bonus points.

Sports Club Timetable
Term 2 PE Timetable

Just a reminder that all after-school clubs finish at 4:10pm. If students would like to take part, please ensure they have their full PE kit.

If students would like to play on the Astroturf during lunchtime, they must bring trainers or football boots. Unfortunately, students will not be allowed on the Astroturf if they do not have the correct footwear.

It's great to see so many students taking part in our Sports Clubs.

Restart a Heart

This Thursday 16th October was Re-start a Heart Day and students in Years 7, 8, and 9 attended informative and engaging assemblies delivered by NNCFR (North Northants Community First Responders). These sessions focused on raising awareness of cardiac arrest and highlighted the vital importance of learning CPR. Through real-life examples and clear demonstrations, students gained a deeper understanding of how early intervention can save lives. For Sixth Form students, a hands-on practical workshop provided an invaluable opportunity to learn and practise CPR skills under expert guidance. The interactive session empowered students with the confidence and knowledge to act in emergency situations, reinforcing the life-saving impact of immediate response.
