Adams Update September 20, 2023

Every day is a great day at Adams!

The Adams Update will be published bi-weekly in the future.

Student Safety

Students supervised by a parent or guardian may use the playground after school. Students waiting to be picked up by a parent/guardian must wait by the waiting tree.

Students who line up in the back of the building in the morning must stand by the back of the building or go to the front of the building. Students should not be on the playground in the morning.

Grief Groups at Adams

The Children’s Grief Center of the Great Lakes Bay Region is offering a peer grief support program at Adams. The mission of The Children’s Grief Center is to provide a healing environment through peer support for children, teens, and their families grieving a death. Our school program will take place this year and will meet for four consecutive weeks during the lunch period. The program is free of charge to any student. If you would like your child to participate in this program, please reach out to Mrs. Ferguson at fergusonzk@midlandps.org by the end of the day on Friday, September 22nd.

Self-awareness Through Modeling and Emotion Check-Ins

It is so good to be back at Adams and into the routine of the school year! Staff have worked hard to build relationships with and among their students through morning meetings, mindfulness practices, and connection activities. This September and October, as a building, we are focusing on our self-awareness. Self-awareness centers on individuals being able to identify their strengths, limitations, emotions, thoughts, and values. Being self-aware encourages confidence, optimism, and a growth mindset. Teachers are helping students to practice self-awareness through modeling and emotion check-ins. They are also paying special attention to students practicing these skills without prompting so that they can be recognized for their great work.

This month the following students are being recognized for demonstrating self-awareness:

  • K: Olivia Brandt
  • 1st: McKenzie Kellar
  • 2nd: Henny Lambert
  • 3rd: Emily Donnini
  • 4th: Mason Buter
  • 5th: Kellan Feist

Seeking a Chess Club Volunteer/Coach

We are looking for a Chess Club Volunteer/Coach for 4th and 5th graders once a week for 1 hour. The day of the week is flexible. Contact the office at 989-923-6037 if interested.

Community Programs

The holidays are headed our way, and we want to be sure that our families are aware of the community programs available to those needing assistance. At this time, the following programs are available to Adams students/families:

**The Sharing Tree program, sponsored by the United Way and the Salvation Army, is available again this year. Those in need fill out a form requesting a Christmas gift, along with clothing sizes. Tags are placed on trees around Midland and shoppers purchase the items, which will then be available for pickup from the school. We have the gift request forms in the office. Stop by and pick them up, or call us if you would like the forms sent home. Completed forms are due to us by October 4, 2023.

**Community Christmas Closet, sponsored by the King's Daughters of Midland, provides clothing vouchers for students. If you are interested in completing this form for your student, please stop by the office or let us know and we will send one home. Completed forms are due to us by October 15, 2023.

The Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Backpack Buddies Program is available again this school year. Contact the office at 923-6037 if you would like to receive the food backpack.

Reporting Absences Through ParentVUE

Parents/Guardians can report student(s) absent via ParentVUE. This feature appears as a blue button titled "Report Absences" on the app's main page or website.

  • Parents/guardians can report absences for a single day or multiple days.
  • Report each student individually. Do not enter additional students in the notes section.
  • For each absence reported, parents/guardians must provide a detailed note explaining the reason. If you report your student as sick, please list the symptoms your student is experiencing. The note will help school attendance staff select the correct attendance code.
  • If you have a legal or medical document, please upload it with the absence, or provide it to the school attendance staff upon your student's return. Parents/guardians can still call to report an absence at 989-923-6037.
